Well, my showing at PT Dallas was pretty good... In the 9 rounds of Swiss I was 7-1-1,
which let me into the final 8.
I went in seeded fourth, against Paul McCabe.
His deck was similar to Terry Borer's deck, and I wasn't all too much worried, becuase I
had beaten Mr. Borer. Then again, Mr. Borer wasn't in the final 8. First game, I lost,
it was pretty close, but he definately had it. Second game, I had one land until turn
six. Oh well. I think he would have beaten me anyway, after all, he did WIN.
My deck caused a bit of a splash, as at several points during the tournement the top
decks all looked like that had been coated in tar... Mine among them. Mr. Hacker
played a black weenie w/Necro, and went into the final 8 seeded first. Mr. McCabe went
in seeded fifth with a Necro/Lake/Drain deck. Later, he won first. I don't know if
there were other black decks in the finals, but there was at least mine in addition to
those two. Here's why I made ripples: NO NECRO!! And I was winning.
Here's a few key cards from my deck (the exact deck will be in Duelist SideBoard):
Sewer Rats
Painful Memories
Hypnotic Specter
Contagion
Icequake
With lots of disruption, and VERY fast creatures, the deck is hard to beat. If I had
been more prepared for Necro I might have placed first... I guess we all learn from our
mistakes.
For those of you who wonder why PT Dallas decks matter: Qualifiers for PT Paris are
exactly the same format.
Just a quick note, since I need some sleep.

Brian Hacker and I played second round. Due to last minute changes in my
deck (removing a swamp and a pumper for a 2nd necro and shatter) I
seriously screwed over my deck. My mana problems came about after I had
just beaten Hacker 18-0 the first game. My opening hand 2nd game was
one land, a mishra factory. So Hacker goes first, plays his swamp and
and Black Vise. I take 3, play my factory and say done. Then he
proceeds to choking sands my next few non-swamps and beat me 20-0 or
something like that =) Then the third game continues on like the second
without the vise and I just now realize JUST how many creatures this mofo
had. He had something like 12 knights and orders, 4 hypnos, 4 factories,
Sengir vampires? and a few erg raiders. I start to get enough land to
fireball all his creatures, but one short so I put a disk out. Then I
kill his creatures, and he throws out 3 more and a necro (all while I'm
at 3 mana). TOTALLY SUCKING! I NEEDED MORE LAND which became evident
all throughout the day!

Congratulations with your place amongst top 8.

Hmm, according to the information I have qualifier for PT Paris will
be Mirage/Visions constructed. Or is that PT Paris itself.
But even if the qualifiers are type 2 constructed it is of no interest
what was played in Dallas. IA and FE are gone, so no Necro and no army
of Knights also no Icy which means no Prison-like decks. That will
give us a lot of other decks. Maybe even Visions will be legal during
qualifiers.
