Frozen Shades (and in fact all creatures with "pumpable" effects) lose
their bonuses at the end of the turn, so for each black mana you spend,
the shade gets one additional power and one additional toughness until
the end of the turn.

It is implied because the Shade's ability is an instant. All instants
expire at the end of the turn unless it says otherwise.

No. *All* such bonuses are until end-of-turn, unless the card says
otherwise; see the rulebook, pp 23 & 30.
I think that so many people were asking this question that WotC added a
``helpful reminder'' to some cards. Unfortunately the effect of this
is to make people think that cards without the reminder have permanent
boosts.
