Hi all,

Can an artifact's ability be played the turn it comes into
play, or do I need to wait till my next turn? I know that
creatures cannot use an ability unless they've been under
your control since the beginning of your turn, but does
this apply to artifacts as well?

Example:

Power Matrix (4)
Artifact
T: Target creature gets +1/+1 and gains flying, first strike,
and trample until end of turn.

Could I tap the Power Matrix for its abilities the same turn
I played it? TIA!

Yes you can. Artifacts are not affected by summoning sickness.

Yes, you may. The rule applies only to creatures. Note that, if it's an
Artifact Creature, it's still a creature so it cannot. But non-creature
artifacts may use any of their abilities the turn they come into play.

Is it a creature, or not? If not, then it can't be affected by the
rule that affects playing creatures' activated tap-cost abilities, no.

Not unless the artifact is also a creature. (And not every ability of
a creature is affected; only the ones that are both activated, and have
the tap SYMBOL in their activation cost [in Oracle], are Forbidden.)

As long as it's not a creature for some reason, you're free to use it
right away.
