If you have multiple Soul Echoes in play, can your opponent
choose to remove one counter from each Soul Echo? The card reads...

-Soul Echo
-When you play Soul Echo, put X echo counters on it. At the beginning of
-your upkeep, if there are no echo counters on Soul Echo bury it; otherwise,
-target opponent may choose that for each 1 damage dealt to you until your
-next upkeep, you instead remove 1 echo counter from Soul Echo. You do
-not lose the game as a result of having less than 1 life.

I consider this to be a similar case as having multiple Ivory Guardians;
it's not a cost to be paid, but triggered effect of the Soul Echo.
But I could be convinced otherwise, given the wording.

Any opinions? Tom?

This is a snip from a previous conversation; I had asked some screwy
Soul Echo questions too... (My question is the first snip)

| Solution: Previous damage _this turn_ has already removed all counters
| from one SE - the other one has counters, though. If my opponent
| chose during my upkeep for both SEs to take damage for me, and I
| receive damage from another source this turn, would the SE without
| counters step in and stop it?

Does that answer your question ok?

He may choose to have each Soul Echo go into "remove counters" mode.

If he chooses for more than one of your Soul Echos to be removing counters,
then each time you get damaged, each of them will try to replace the damage
at the end of the damage-prevention step ... and following the normal
specialized-effect rules, you get to deal with them in any order. In this
case, that means the first one you deal with will suck up all the damage
from that d-p step, remove as many counters as it sucked damage, or remove
as many counters as it still has if it doesn't have enough. The others will
then find the damage has all been sucked up and will sit there waiting.
