I remember seeing a combo in an inquest or scrye...but didn't know if
it was possible...but here it is anyways...It was Disponic scepter(?)
bury target peramenent that you own...and feldons cane...you some how
tapped the can then buryed it with the scepter, so that when you
re-shuffled you'd get the cane back...possible? or not?

thanks...

Despotic Scepter
1

T: Destroy target permanent you own. It can't be regenerated.

Feldon's Cane
1
Artifact
T, Remove Feldon's Cane from the game: Shuffle your graveyard
into your library.

Not.

Why? Because both the T and the "Remove Feldon's Cane from the
game" are part of the _cost_ for activating the Cane's ability,
not part of the _effect_.
In other words, if you want to use the cane, you have to tap it
and remove it from the game - and THEN its ability goes on the
stack and you can respond to it. It's much too late to use the
Scpeter on it by then, since it's already gone.
You can try the other way - tap Despotic Scepter targetting the
Cane, then respond to that with the Cane's ability - but that
won't work either. The Scepter ability goes on the stack, then
the Cane removes itself from the game, then the Cane ability goes
on the stack and resolves, then the Scepter ability is countered
on resolution because the Cane is already gone.

In short: There is _no way_ to use the Cane's ability without
having to remive it from the game.

Okay ... if it was an old Inquest or Scrye, it may have been possible with
older rules but may be illegal now.

It may have worked at one time, but it no longer does.

No. You RFG the Cane _on announcement_ of the Cane ability; you can't
play the Scepter ability during the announcement of the Cane ability, and
if you do so after the Cane is already gone.

Not. You have to remove it from the game as a cost, so by the time you would
get a chance to destroy it with the Scepter, it's already removed from the
game. If you try to do it the other way around (play the Scepter's ability,
then respond with the Cane), then the Cane will be removed from the game
before the Scepter can resolve and destroy it.

Not possible; you remove the Cane from the game as part of the -cost-
of using it.

There was a time, a _loooong_ time ago, when the removal from game was
part of the Cane's effect; it may have been around the time Revised was
out. The Cane hasn't worked that way for a long long time, though; you're
probably looking at a -very- old magazine there.

Or they just ignored that the combo no longer works under the new rules.
AFAIK, Inquest rarely (if at all) prints retractions of combos or rulings,
whether the rulings changed, or they had been wrong in the first place.
