Treat a mono artifact as if the effect had a (t) tap symbol before the effect
listed on the card. (mono = used once). A poly artifact can be used more
than once per turn.

"Mono" was the term they used to indicate that the artifact had to tap
when it was used. This was because they did have the tap symbol back then.

My spies caught Jeff Perales typing:

| Whis is the difference between a Mono-Artifact and a regular artifact?

A 'Mono' Artifact is from the Pre-revised rules and means that the artifact
taps when used.
A 'Poly' Artifact us from the Pre-revused rules and means that the artifact
_does not_ tap when used.
A 'Continuous' Artifact is from the Pre-revised rules and has a continuous
effect (ie, it is not activated).

A plain 'Artifact' is from Revised rules (or newer). The tap symbol is used
to indicate if it should be tapped.

A Mono Artifact taps when you use it.
