If a card says destroy target artifact, can you use it to destroy an
Artifact creature??(I'm new at this stuff).

1) A word to the wise for later posts: This question really belongs in
.rules, not .misc. Please note the existance of the seperate groups,
and use the most appropriate one. .misc is appropriate only when none
of the others is not better.

2) To answer your question: Yes it can. An artifact creature is an
artifact - and like any other artifact for all purposes except when
the rules say otherwise.

You certainly can destroy an artifact creature with a shatter or any other
card that targets an artifact. Artifact creatures have got to be the EASIEST
type of card to get rid of since they can be destroyed by damage, cards or
effects that target creatures, spells or effects that target artifacts, spells
or effects that target artifact creatures, or another creature blocks or is
blocked by it. This is why I can not understand why they continue to make
overcosted, underpowered artifact creatures when they are so damn easy to get
rid of.

Most likely because they are so easy to cast. Generic mana is
the easiest to get in bulk (Urzatron, Manafacts, Channel, Workshop, etc.)
Esp. if you are playing more than one color.

Hate to get picky, but the Mishra's factory is probably easier to get rid
of it can be stripped, pillaged and so forth.

There are, however, some other points to consider:
1. Generic mana makes them very easy to cast in a multi-colour deck
2. Almost no creatures have protection from artifacts, so they also fill
holes in mono-colour decks; COP Artifact is also hard to come by (if it's even
Type II legal)
3. Neither Terror nor Dark Banishing can kill artifact creatures; given that
there are no black anti-artifact spells (unless you like Phyrexian something
from Mirage) artifact creatures are actually the most difficult for mono-black
to deal with.

If there were a 4/5 artifact creature for 5 mana (one more than the Ernham
Djinn) it would be in almost every deck with creatures. Very boring.

Nope. Dark Banishing most certainly can kill an artifact creature, it
just can't kill a black creature.

Colorless casting costs would be my guess. Imagine if Clockwork Beast
cost... say, five mana. They would be a lot more popular. (At least, *I*
would use them.) Or perhaps a 1 CC Wall of Spears. Even though it's a wall,
tha'd be a pretty good first-turn defense. You don't need any specfic color
mana to play artifact creatures, and if they weren't overcosted, I would
suppose that artifact/Urzatron decks would be a lot more viable in tourney
play, perhaps even to the point of abusiveness. I hope you see my point.
