It's been some time since I've written here, but Jeff Miracola has just
joined the ranks of Daydream Graphics. We're going to be making
available many of his original paintings, sketches, and prints from his
work on Magic: The Gathering, Judge Dredd, and TSR products over the
next few months. What's Daydream Graphics you ask? It's an artist-run
co-op gallery featuring the talents of:
Matthew Wilson
Drew Tucker
Brian Snoddy
RK Post
Terese Nielsen
Jeff Miracola
Quinton Hoover
Randy Gallegos
Liz Danforth
Jason Behnke
Where is it? Funny you should ask:

Y'know, I *really* don't want to have to report Randy Gallegos and his
website of funky artist dudes for spamming. So what say we don't post
any further adverts for their site to .misc?
--
Will you two stop arguing and start thinking
about where we can find some cement?
C'mon Dave -- that's going a little far. While it is true that
Gallegos' site sells prints, it is also the case that they feature a
*lot* of artwork of interest to Magic players. Posting web site
announcements has always been OK on .misc, and is not considered
spamming unless overt sales pitches are involved.

This is really a tough one, I'd love to see all different sorts of spam
banished
from rec.games.trading-cards.magic.misc, and Randy's post is sort of a
marginal spam for his commercial site... but it is indeed magic related.
I guess
according to the group charter, Randy's post does belong here because it
is not
really dealing with the sale of actual trading cards. (Thus fall under
the category
of .misc)
On the otherhand, Mr. Miracola's art has always been kindof iffy. His
painting
of human figures just flat out suck and can compete with Mme.
Organ-Keene in
terms of worst art in magic. Just my humble opinion, of course.

So would I :)

I tried to access the site to determine what it was about ... but I
couldn't earlier today. I'm not entirely sure if it's .misc or a
.marketplace site yet.
After closer examination ... I'd have to say that while it _does_ have
selling of artwork as one of its goals, it also serves as a gallery of art
for free.

There are between 8 and 12 artists in the gallery, IIRC ... so just about
everyone should find something to suit their tastes.

It's more the encouragement of other spammers, Bobby-boy. <grin>
Seriously, though, it was also quite widely multiposted.
Even though the site does have a decidedly commercial air, two things
have convinced me that we should let this advertisement slide. First,
it is a point of interest for many MtG players, and second, and more
importantly, they seem to hold the "Gallery" style as more important
than the "e-commerce site" style. Case in point, they keep up scans of
the art even after the original art has been sold. This makes it more
like a true Gallery where you can view artists works. Sure they're
available to buy if you want, but the main focus is getting the art
shown. And in a real Gallery, the art is often for sale as well, but
they _don't_ keep it around for others to enjoy

The One and Only Defender of Cards That Blow
My newsreader limits sigs to four lines, but I cleverly bypassed this by
When you came to my trade stand at GenCon UK you said "On behalf of SpamCop
*mutter mutter* naughty naughty naughty. I *really* don't want to report you
for spamming even if it only was a joke"
This was in response to some joke spams that i posted which I thought were
quite clearly such. now there's this post. Coincidence...or something more
sinister..... :o)
Having started reading this NG recently again (I stopped about 2 years ago
since it only semed to consist of people asking what you thought was the
best/worst cards in Magic and which artwrk was the sexiest) it seems that a
disturbingly significant amount of post has nothing to do with magic. Only
posts smugly letting everyone know that a certain spammer has been reported.
i like a bit of humour, a bit of relevant gossip/scandal, I can live with the
odd bit of spam but what annoys me is self-righteous and self -appointed
guardians of morality who can't help but let everyone know it and frequently
too.
If people want to reduce irrelevant posts on here stop telling everyone about
who youve reported, threatening those who spam (as if they actually read your
follow ups) and trying to have the last word everygod damn time by repeatedly
following up your own anti spam threads.
