Can I ask please whether anyone can rule as to whether the card text of
Masochism kicks in for damage caused to a vampire outside of combat? The
wording of 'successfully inflicted' is a little open to interpretation. I am
mainly interested in gaining some additional benefit from playing cards such
as Force of Will, Daring the Dawn and/or Rutor's Hand (assuming that this
will actually work). Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Regards,

Mike

Yes, you may ask.
Yes, someone can make such a ruling.
:-)

Yes, Masochism gets a counter for each point of damage done outside of combat
as well (unless that damage is ignored by the minion, i.e. unless the minion
is immune to that damage).

Successfully inflicted damage is damage that is inflicted, is not ignored,
and is not prevented.

I forget you guys are behind us on the clock, and hence still at work :)

So, to clarify, if a minion possessing Masochism were to play Force of Will,
and then Daring the Dawn, they would gain two rush counters, for taking
damage from two different sources?

In regards to timing, I assume that as the action has not yet resolved, the
rush counter from playing Force of Will could be used to pay for other
action modifiers (that have a blood cost) on that same action?

Mike

Number of sources is immaterial. Masochism gets a counter for each point of
damage. If you play Force of Will and Daring the Dawn both at superior, the
Masochism gains 2 counters. If you play them both at inferior, the Masochism
gains 4 counters.

Unless the action modifier is also played after resolution (e.g. Freak
Drive), correct.

It sounds like you're answering this question as if it said

"as the action has not yet resolved, the rush counter from

playing Force of Will could *not* be used". Although it also
sounds like that may have been the question Mike meant to ask.

I would have thought, though, that as written, the answer
would be "no, you cannot use rush counters gained from Force
of Will damage to pay for action modifiers on the same action,
unless they are played after resolution (e.g. Freak Drive)",
since the damage from Force of Will (and Daring the Dawn for
that matter) isn't applied until after the action resolves.

Hmm. Correct. The absence of the not is a typo. Based on the context,
the negative question was intended. I didn't notice the omission,
and answered the negative question. Thanks for catching that.

For the mistyped question, yes, the answer is negative.
