I´ve just seen the twilight saga: new moon in a teather and I was
thinking to myself: they sued underworld for less than this. I mean,
not just the Vulturi are so obvius, the Cullens are Toreador poorly
disguised, and I bet I saw a vampire who looked exactly equal to
Laurent in some WW front page, the tribal wolves easily make a point
by themself.
Have you noticed any others similitudes between those, or it was just
my imagination?
I think they should not dare to sue underworld while Ann Rice is still
alive anyway :p

Underworld was a different issue, the story was extremely similar to a
previously published novel by WW. They swapped the genders of the two
main characters, but that was about it.

Unless you think that all of Stephanie Meyer's vampires have 10 dots
in Bardo, then no, I don't see the similarities. I don't see any
connection with the Cullens and the Toreador clan, either, unless
they're a Toreador bloodline with high levels of Potence instead of
Auspex and an aversion to drinking from humans instead of a
fascination with art and beauty.

Modern vampire fiction uses a lot of the same genre conventions, but
that doesn't mean plagiarism.

the disciplines of Cullens are clearly CEL, PRE and AUS, as long as
the are recongnized to be faster than other vampires, some of them can
control moods and they can either mind read, ethereal travel or
precognition.
There is a mecanic in the game that states that any vampire can spent
blood to fuel her strengh, the amount of blood they can burn to do so
depends on her generation, but the weakest 9th gen can tear mountains
apart with this system.
Also, the Cullens ARE fascinated by beauty: if the first reaction of
Ed to Bella does not make you realize that, think about your group of
friends, and how many of them can compete with any of them to get
laid, even if not vampires (And I mean any group of friends, despite
that the promedy vtes player is either ugly or gay. I am ugly, by the
way) there are many factions of "veggans" in the plot, by the way.

The Vulturi, in the other hand, are a conclave of control freaks, with
sede in italy, wich abilitys are command obedience (as a single word
like pain), Auspex like the old clan Ventrue, and control emmotions,
and guess what, the vampires of rumania hold an ancient grudge against
them, because they took the control from them. sounds familiar? my gf
said that I should not talk about plagiarism before get to know the
ravnos like coven and bella become Alia.

And what about Meyer's vampires moving about freely during the day?
These vampires are not WoD vampires.

All of the vampires in her world would be considered to have Potence
and Celerity, except that their Celerity is better than WoD Celerity
because they don't have to use personal energy (aka blood) to use it.
They can zoom around for dozens of miles without ever getting extra-
hungry. Likewise for the use of extraordinary strength - there's no
indication that their strength is anything less than permanent, or
that they can increase it by expending personal energy.

The Cullens do NOT have Auspex. Two of them - Edward and Alice - have
abilities that correspond to Auspex powers. Edward has Telepathy (and
according to New Moon, Telepathic Communication), level 4/6 Auspex,
and Alice has Precognition, level 9 Auspex. Maybe the vampires'
senses are somewhat more accute than humans' (Auspex 1), but not
remarkably so. The Cullens' collective beauty makes one think of
Presence, but they don't exhibit the actual Presence powers from WoD.
Jasper's ability of emotion control would probably be a Presence 6+
ability in WoD.

Yes, Edward Cullen himself seems like a Toreador. He has unearthly
beauty, he's very fast, he can read minds, and he has a (nearly)
tragic love affair with a mortal, who, by the way, is not even
strikingly beautiful herself. Did Meyer get this from WoD? I doubt
it. Anne Rice? Maybe.

Personally I think Charlaine Harris should be suing Stephanie Meyer
for plagiarism. Sookie Stackhouse, Harris's protagonist, is a mortal
who falls in love with a vampire because she can't read his mind.
Edward Cullen from the Twilight saga is a vampire who falls in love
with a mortal because he can't read HER mind. Dead Until Dark was
published in 2001; Twilight was published in 2005.

Ok, tell that to the embraced vamps.

No, not all of them, in fact this far just the cullens and a coven
whose resamble city Gangrel showed to have Cel. Have you notice that
to avoid the fight of edwar in the elyseum none of the vulturis speed
much? And that the solely Vamp whose fight edward seems to be capable
of doing so?

I supose you show simptoms of being digesting your lunch whenver you
angauge any effort. grosse.
In fact, the only time in the movie wich they glance to feed is after
every vulturi has used their gifts, and take a whole tourist large
group to mitigate their hungry.

then, you mean, not ALL Cullens SHOWS auspex, as not every toreador
shows all 3 clan disciplines

The Cullens' collective beauty makes one think of

The Cullens collective beauty points to a coven obsessed with beauty,
wich only embraces beautiful peopple.

Clan Ventrue has never had Auspex. And if you're looking for a WoD
faction which the vampires of Romania (i.e. the Tzimisce) have a
grudge against, that would be the Tremere, not the Ventrue. Sorry to
say, but based on what you've written you're just picking up
superficial similarities and try to connect the dots when there is in
fact no connection beyond the pointy teeth (and you don't seem to know
your oWoD very well).

Now, if they had mentioned a Camarilla, or a belief that all vampires
originate from Cain, then I'd say you'd definitely have a point. But
all the things which you have brought up so far is just generic
vampire stuff.

Ups, they did http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ventrue#Version_differences
you may verify also that in VTES, !Ventru holds aus as an inclan
discipline

nop, the grudge is against both clans as you may read in any Dark ages
book.

Yeah, I haven´t read all of the gazillion books from oWoD I have, but
you are showing better knowledge than me this far in this post.

Well, I was trying to chat about the similarities between those
artworks in a group I tought would be a good place to do so, but I
just found a bunch of narrow minds (on sale) so, you win, I quit.

You fail to actually read the text you've linked to. It states quite
clearly - and correctly - that the Ventrue Antitribu, not the Ventrue,
once had Auspex. This appears to have been due to a mistake when the
old Sabbat book was written (they were intended to have the same
disciplines as their parent clan, as far as I've heard). This is, as
you may understand, the reason for the Ventrue Antitribu having Auspex
in VtES.

The Tzimisce historically have a great dislike for quite a number of
clans, as well as of each other. However, the grudge which really
stands out is the one with the Tremere.

Ah, yeah, because informing you that you are wrong makes us narrow-
minded.

No, not at all. Just pointing out that you may want to check up on

I think you should never admit to willingly watching Twilight. And
especially, admitting you've watched it with keen interest to spot
similarities, to boot.
