I've always been confused as to how this card works. It says the
vampire gets an optional press and will not go to torpor until combat
ends, or 3 rounds pass without cards being played.

So does he get a press every round until combat is over? It reads
that way, but id like to clarify.

No. He gets one press, usable only on the current round.
