this event turned out to be rather small: only 11 players showed up. so i
decided to join. therefore we ended up with 12 players:

Martin Kasika - toolboxy gangrel (4.5 VP in the prelim.)
Helmuth Kaiserseder - tzmisce intercept (1 VP)
Bernhard Gronau - mid-cap follower of set (1.5 VP)
Attila Sipos (Hungary) - queen anne 5th tradition / bleed (4 VP)
Stefan Stoehr - toolboxy follower of set (0 VP)
Edi Winter - giovanni combat (0 VP)
Martin Hechtberger - dominate weenie bleed (3 VP)
Werner Suehs - euro brujah with some giovanni (3 VP)
Janos Horvath (Hungary) - dominate / obetenebration bleed (5VP)
Laszlo Meto (Hungary) - giovanni with a hint of thaumaturgy (0 VP)
Marcus Mock - tremere intercept (4.5 VP)
Martin Weinmayer - tremere intercept (5.5 VP)

my first round was a very fast game. i preyed on martin hechtberger who
preyed on stefan stoehr who preyed on attila sipos. martin took out stefan
and attila unceremoniously and then ran into my wall of blockers, 2 VP for
me.

in the second round i faced an opponent i feared very much: martin weinmayer
who played a deck alomost identical to mine. besides he was european
champion of 1999 and winner of the austrian qualifier 2001 with a deck like
that. adding to my problems was edi winter against whose immortal grapples i
could not do very much.
i was barely able to take out my prey janos horvath before martin ousted
edi, who was weakened by ceaselessly attacking me. after that martin
contested one of my key vampires and killed the others with talbott's
chainsaw attacks. a total of 3 VP for me.

the third round consisted of two 5-player tables because two player had
left.
again martin weinmayer was sitting at my table. but as my grand-grandprey he
was far enough away for the moment. i was preying on martin hechtberger
whose deck i knew from the first game. he preyed on martin kasika who preyed
on martin weinmayer who preyed on bernhard gronau.
this game dragged on for a long time. i thought my prey martin would make
quick work with his prey's gangrel deck but somehow he wasn't able to finish
the gangrel off. bernhard put a lot of pressure on me with his nasty night
moves / enticement / forgotten labyrinth combo. but i had some permanent
intercept and could hold him at bay. shortly before time was called i could
oust my prey taking the only full VP at this table. a total 4.5 VP.

it turned out to be enough to reach the final. i was even placed 3rd after
the preliminary rounds. this is the boon of a small tourney!

in the final marin kasika preyed on me, i preyed on attila who preyed on
martin weinmeyer who preyed on janos. the first guy to be in real trouble
was my predator martin with his gangrel. he held out for a while but was
eventually ousted by some high stealth bleeds by the lasombra bleeders.
meanwhile i had time to build up while attila my prey was consistently
weakened because he was sitting between two heavy intercepters. he put up as
much as 5 or 6 stealth but it was normally not enough. finally queen anne
was torporized while foolishly taking some action and was quickly dispatched
by muaziz.
after that the table was mine. i simply had had a nice time to build up at
the beginning whereas little was left of the other methuselah's minions.

so in the end i ironically won the tourney in which i didn't even want to
play. 2nd place went to janos horvath from budapest, third to martin
weinmayer.

alltogether it was a cool turney with a really familiar atmosphere.
everybody had a great time on that day.

the idea of the deck is to build up and prevent pool loss. due to magic of
the smith it is fairly versatile and i can usually get the ressources i need
at the moment. after a while i have 4 or 5 vampires in play and my prey is
an easy kill because she could not build up.

after the tourney i made some adjustments: the fear of mekeht went for
rötschrecks. i ditched the blood fury and the fake outs and added another
magic of the smith, a wake, an IR Goggle and an eagle's sight.
