You only burn blood if you actually block Donal, not attempt to,
correct?

I play in a non-English meta, and none of the players agree with me
thast Donal's effect is unlike Cam Exemp or Archon.
I know you do not burn for blocking Donal, but need official
confirmation please from the big guy.

That's right.

Card text would help.

Camarilla Prince of Dublin: Any vampire blocking D�nal
burns 1 blood (before combat begins, if any).

The "before combat begins" is a huge context clue that
you only burn blood when the block is successful.
