It appears that there was a major error at the printer and the new
release date is now February 3, 2010.

For more information: http://extrala.blogspot.com/

Hopefully WW gets a nice discount on the cost of the next set due to
the printer making it so this set doesn't get released before
Christmas.

I'm glad that VTES is still being supported by White Wolf and that the
next expansion is apparently in the works (according to Oscar).

However, I am rather disappointed by the printers. Once again the
printers end up dropping the ball. (There were several minor issues in
Keepers of Tradition, and a real major one with Third Edition, and
this one seems to be another major one since it's pushing the release
date back several months!).

It makes me long for the good old days of Carta Mundi. Reliable work
and awesome card stock (just feel the card quality on the old Sabbat
cards). I realize Carta Mundi is a bit more expensive, but after yet
another snafu, maybe it's worth it? (Plus with the dwindling of other
CCG's, maybe there's less competition for Carta Mundi nowadays?).
Speaking of excellent card stock, the original Rage cards were a thing
of beauty as well (even though the actual game really sucked).

IIRC, White Wolf has tried more than one bargain printer in recent
years. (First one in Canada, followed by one in China). But none have
been particularly impressive. I hope White Wolf seriously reconsiders
their choice of printers for the future.

2nded. It's so painful to open 3rd edition. No wonder it sits on
shelves for so long. I've also had promos that are damaged, but I'm
told that has more to do with storage and shipping than manufacturing.

Incredible. :-(

"On the bright side, Oscar also reported that the expansion after "Heirs to
the Blood" is already in the pipeline."

I, for one, would be all in favor or expansions planned less close, but
worked upon "as if". For instance, if all this had been planned well (better
?) for 9 months / 6 months alternance, but was in fact closer than, say, 1
year / 6 (9 ?) months, we would have several advantages :

- better commercial and promotionnal planning
- more time for us to really get into the cards of the current expansion
- a safety period for such unexpected circumstances as the truckload of shit
that apparently fell from nowhere on top of HttB.

Sounds beneficial for all. In any case, what has happened here is bad for
everyone.
Much better to hold your money and expectations a little longer than to
think you're going to get a quality product with the appropriate promotion
and you just don't.

Hopefully, WW will get their butts in gear and confirm this - in which
case the pages on their own web site that are still promising Heirs to
the Blood on December 2nd and taking orders for pre-release kits need
to come down and other sources like Potomac Distribution need to be
informed. Or else deny it.

When product manufacturing snafus are driving you nuts, good
communication with your customers will go a long way towards making up
for it. At least, IMHO.

It's because WW feel the need to compete directly with the High-Cycle
CCGs (Yugioh, MtG) that pump out a 100-150 card set every 6 months
like clockwork.

I think WW should maybe abandon that model and go for a 9 month
cycle... it will ensure that they can sell out print runs before
introducing the next set.

There was also some printer in Texas that did Lords of the Night. I
thought that set came out well. Wonder why we switched back to Canada.

Anyway, put me down as someone who would prefer to pay a little more for
quality.

Ebony K came out in May, now HttB comes out in Feb - 9 months! Maybe
this is WW's way of doing it...

My local FLGS tells me that WW has not given the shipping notice for
HttB.
Potomac confirmed a 2nd December ship for HttB.

WTH?!

Well... The absence of spoilers, so far, let me believe that something
was really delayed... and it was!

Lets hope that the back of the cards are similar to the other
editions...

There are no spoilers because the playtesters (this time) are keeping
their mouths (fingers) shut.
That's the only difference.

Except for the part where a lot of the previous sets' spoilers came
from various magazine publications (and not from playtesters violating
their NDAs willy-nilly.)

Tiago,
Remember, just like politics there are two kinds of information leaks.
There are "LEAKS" where someone sacrifices their career, social
standing and a whole bunch of stuff to do the right thing.
And there are "leaks" where "an anonymous source" hands a journalist a
pre-written glowing article about some current topical political hobby
horse.

I assume VTES has the same kinds. "LEAKS" = People doing bad things
to their NDAs. "leaks" = WW being sneaky to stir up interest.

Hey! The good news is that they will have time to put up a preview
page!

I told LSJ exactly that. His response was to shrug. And I understand.
The EC would've been a great place to start some leaks.
Appearently, its too soon for the second type.

nine months between sets is my preferred amount of time. So I am
actually happy for this. I like a bit more time to digest each set. I
am still not done with Keepers of Tradition.

I agree. With all the Storylines, drafts and Qualifiers going around
(people tend to go for older, safer stereotypes), there is little time
to digest strategies with the lattest sets.
Of course, there are other things to consider, like the profit that
the game must show for CCP to keep it, etc.
I think that the high of profit is during releases, so, more releases
- more profit.

That was Carta Mundi USA.

Probably a lowest-bid procedure. :P

I don't get why there are so many problems with printing let alone
editing. I look at several other card games and they have very few

major company and order would have a set of proofs prior to full scale
printing.

I work with a film festival every year, and we always have a set of
proofs from the printer for each item that gets printed. Several
people look at the proofs. This is basic project management. Of
course, errors still occur.

I would have to think that White Wolf might share some of the blame,
since they should have requested proof sheets and had a chance to
locate any major error the printer might have made before the print
run occurred. Who knows? These kind of projects are tough to manage,
I'm sure.

In any case, I'm just as happy for the delay - the new sets come far
to close to one another.
