I recently unearthed my huge collection of Jyhad cards and I'd like to
bring the game to my current group, who plays big deck/ one set games
like Illuminati, Dominion and others. I could create different decks
for each player to choose from but I am pretty out of it as far as
deck building goes (though your deck lists are great!), and I would
like to explore a more varied style of Jyhad playing if that's even
possible. Do you know of any one-big-deck variants for Jyhad/V:TES?
I've been scouring the internet looking for the article printed years
and years ago in the Duelist. Any info would be great, as well as any
tips on building beginner decks for a group of four. I have tons of
cards at my disposal.
------------------------
How would you answer it?
This is how I replied:
Any variants of which I am aware would be here:

In my opinion, the clans are too varied to play with one universal
deck. You would always have way too many cards that you couldn't use,
both in hand and coming up in the library. (39 clans and bloodlines,
28 different disciplines, 13 different titles, 5 different sects,
etc.)
You might try using the Imperator deck rules from the Imperator
storyline (page 2).
http://www.vtesstorylines.com/Pdfs/Imperator_Rules.pdf
That's probably the closest to the Illuminati/Dominion experience.
I suppose you could build 1 really large deck of 1 or two
complimentary clans and run a "large deck" from that.
I made a large Happy Families deck of focussing on the original clans,
which sounds like something you want to do. I multiplied the ratios
up from the formula devised by James McClellan, and inserted into the
ARDB.

So long as you give it a REALLY good shuffle it works fine. One thing
I would suggest is to split the crypt into low caps and high caps for
the initial draw and get players to draw two cards from each,
otherwise you could get really screwed from the first turn. Shuffle
the crypt back together after that.

If the OP's card set is really heavy on Jyhad and original VTES,
though, a whole lot of that mix goes away. That still doesn't make it
easy... but it makes it plausible.
If we go back to just original-set cards, that puts us at 7 clans, 10?
disciplines, and 3 titles. Since each clan has about 1/3 of those
disciplines, and there's some overlap between clans, I think I'd do
something like the following:
Mix all the vampires, and all the library cards, into single stacks,
with at least 12 vampires per player and at least 60? library cards
per player. At game start, each player draws 12 vampires for opening
crypt and 21 cards for opening hand, picks 4 and 7, and discards the
rest into the "castoff" pile next to each stack. Whenever a player
would draw a card (library or crypt) he or she draws 3 and picks one,
putting the rest in the castoffs pile. When the draw pile runs out,
shuffle the castoffs and refill. When the castoffs are all used, too
(which should be the third time through the deck), players could
reshuffle their library discards...
Thoughts?

If the card set was limited to Jyhad and Vtes base set you could try
something like having a shared crypt and then multiple shared
libraries. One library for all the Auspex cards, one for Animalism,
one for Celerity, and so on for each of the disciplines. Then one more
library of the rest of the cards (or you could do some more divisions
if you wanted to, Political Actions, Equipment). You'd need some sort
of labelling system, but whenever you draw to replace you choose what
library you want to draw from. Then you could leverage some of the
wacky off-clan disciplines some vampires have by drawing from that
stack. If the cardsets include Independents, Sabbat, and/or Laibon you
are probably getting into the realm of too many stacks to be
reasonable. This would be quiet a different game than regular Vtes,
but it looks like they are more interested in a 4 player card game
than a deckbuilding game.

Sounds interesting. 1 recursion? Or two...

Probably 1; hard to say without trying it. It'd definitely be more
interesting with a determined mix of cards rather than a random
assortment, I think, so maybe Sam's Happy Families Monster is a
starting point for it...
