I understand that you can use the Madness Network to get past the
limitations of out-of-turn masters. If your Malkavian is equipped
with an agro-weapon you can play Rotschreck while he's acting. I once
used it to avoid Rotschrecks played by my Tzimisce wall predator.
My impression is that people tend to freak out when they see this card
and waste actions to remove it, and that's the main reason why I've
put it into my deck, as a kind of decoy. Other than that I'm not sure
the best ways to use. I guess you can use it to wait to see all the
actions you might want to block before you act at the end of your
predator's turn.
What are the generally held theories behind the use of this card?
Use Protean. Homunculus lets a Malkavian bleed every turn under the
Madness Network. Earth Meld to keep your blockers alive is a nice
bonus.
Bleeding on your predator's turn to gain 1 from the edge. Bleeding on
prey's turn for lots to avoid Archon Investigation. those are pretty
obvious though.
Much like Paths, either people ignore it because they're too busy
playing their deck and trying to oust, or they throw away actions to
burn it like you mentioned. In the latter case, you can start making
fun of them, "you really don't have anything BETTER to do?"
I once made a silly Madness Network trick deck using Sennadurek, clan
impersonating to Malkavian. then she bleeds every single turn,
untapping as soon as the edge moves. if I already have the edge, I'd
use Leverage to burn it (untap!) or call a crappy vote like Finding
the Path, then burn the edge for 1 vote (untap!). whether it passes or
not doesn't even matter. Ex Nihilo gives Sennadurek permanent +1
stealth and a lot of combat protection when she blocks.
it was really stupid, but the one time I played it, it got to a
tournament final because of NEC-DOM bleed alone.
- Rachel Brandywine with Homunculus, 2nd Tradition and Earth Meld
- Masika Impersonates
- Shalmath Impersonates
- Perfectionists play hot potato with a Leather Jacket, each getting 1
blood during every player's turn and untapping
- Victoria bleeds to get the edge at the end of your pred's turn,
bloating for 3 each round
- Reversal of Fortune-tricks (didn't that even win a major
tournament?)
Mix and match where appropriate. But whatever you do, remember to
abuse Perfectionist + Madness Network.
Avoiding Archon Investigation and getting the edge right before your
turn are good, as has been mentioned. Rachel Brandywine is
particularly abusive when equipped with a Perfectionist and a
Homunculous. She bleeds and, if blocked, usually Earth Melds to S:CE
and untap. Sometimes she'll Form of Mist to sneak it past a blocker.
Her +1 bleed and DEM are really good for this. She's also a prince, so
she can 2nd tradition to untap and block. If she fails, she'll just
act. If she blocks, she'll Earth Meld. Awful.
Ruben had a deck where he had weenie aus Malkavians switch the order
of play back and forth so that only he, his predator and prey took
turns.
My favorite use include taking Masika, clan impersonating Malkavians,
playing the network, then bleeding for 2 every turn, no additional
cards required. Concealed .44 makes for good combat defense/offense.
Torrent might also be good in a limited supply. Perfectionist, of
course. Victoria combo's well to gain extra pool. She's often also
included in the Brandywine version.

Yes, and is the single best reason to burn the network. It does not
matter how good your deck is, if you never get a turn.
Also, there is the out of turn rush and rotschreck mechanic,
graverobbing to follow up
or aggressive transferring, followed by parity shift on your preys
turn
the madness network MUST go, it may be more important than getting an
oust, I can't leave it on the table, because they might not be making
the most of it.

It's really fun when combined with 1st Tradition...

Greger too.

Yeah I've got a Brandywine + Greger + Victoria + 3rd Trads. Breed 2-
caps with obf to bleed at light stealth out of turn. You basically
grab a 3rd Trad during your pred's turn (w/ Perfectionist), bleed for
1 with [insert chump here], gain 2 from the edge with Victoria, Hunt
with Rachel (for 2 blood), Untap w/ Homonculus... bleed with the
little weenies for 1 out of turn...over and over and over.
Madness Network is vital in the best-named. Deck. Ever:
"The Texas Chainsaw Masika"
Masika Clan Impersonates to Malk, has Madness Network in play, equips with
Talbot's Chainsaw. Then he rushes with the Chainsaw during the turn of every
single player, but only takes the damage from the Chainsaw during his own
turn.
Bonus style points awarded for equipping with Changeling Skin Mask.
