Question: shuffling a deck during a game

a quick search on the r.g.t-c.j archives. I've found nothing.
Is it legal to shuffle your library in the middle of a VtES game? My
guess is no, especially when it comes to effects allowing you (or
another Methuselah) to look at one or more cards at the top of your
library? However, if it's illegal to do that, where is the ruling
that says so?

Exactly. Though in most instances which aren't like that, it shouldn't
have any appreciable effect on the deck if the deck has been
sufficiently randomised.

The rules detail what you can do, in most instances. Anything not
detailed is off limits. (e.g. There's nothing saying you can't just
place your opponent's cards in her ash-heap.)
