Freak Drive
Is played at the end of an action, but still during the action. It
cannot be played on an action that was made unpreventable by
Concoction of Vitality, for example. [LSJ 19981028]

Why?

The action was successful, I see nothing preventing the FD from being
played (beyond this ruling).

Card text.

Name: Concoction of Vitality
[Sabbat, SW]
Cardtype: Equipment
Cost: 1 pool
Unique equipment.
When the vampire with this card announces an action, he or she may burn this
card to prevent vampires from blocking that action. If he or she does so,
this vampire cannot play cards requiring Disciplines until the action is
complete.

It's not the "successful/failed" FD clause that's an issue, it's the
Concoction text, preventing Freak Drive, Spying Mission, etc.

That only prevents cards using disciplines until the action is
complete (and the CoV was used as an example of unpreventable actions,
which is what really caused confusion).

The action must be completed one way or another to determine if it is
successful or not, and only then can freakdrive be played, so I still
see nothing preventing a FD.

Well at the time I was boggled by the 'cant be played on an action
made unpreventable' aspect.

That could probably be shortened to simply 'cant be played during an
action using concoction of vitality for example'.

Not true. That it is played "at the end of an action, but still during
the action" is tremendously important for anyone timing it around, say,
Bum's Rush.
