The Return of
_Netrunner_ and _Vampire: The Eternal Struggle_
DCI-Sanctioned Tournaments

Calling all Runners and Methuselahs! The DCI(TM) players' organization, in
collaboration with the Top Runners' Conference and Vampire: Elder Kindred
Network, now offers sanctioned _Netrunner(R)_ and _Vampire: The Eternal
Struggle(TM)_ tournaments and tournament support. We are proud and excited
to work with these two outstanding player organizations to bring you the
best in competitive organized play.

The DCI will sanction Netrunner and Vampire: The Eternal Struggle
tournaments using the same quick, easy procedures already established for
_Magic: The Gathering(R)_, _BattleTech(R)_, and _ARC System(TM)_
tournaments. Tournament organizers need only note their preference on
their DCI sanctioning applications (please contact the DCI if you need
these forms).

We know that sanctioned tournaments require official rules support. We are
working with these two dedicated player organizations to coordinate
tournament rules, banned and restricted card lists (if necessary), and
card rulings. *The DCI recognizes the following as the official rules
authorities for their respective games*:

Netrunner:
Skip Pickle (Top Runners' Conference)

V:TES:
L. Scott Johnson (Vampire: Elder Kindred Network)
<vte...@wizards.com>
V:EKN Web page: <madness...@hexagon.net>

These individuals will act as the officials "rules team" for their
respective games henceforth!

Questions? Comments? Please contact the DCI--we will be happy to assist you!

Ok, so what does this mean *exactly*?
Before, we enjoyed support from WotC in that they sent out prize packages
to the tournament coordinators. With V:EKN, there was an implementation
of player rating tracking. Is this something new? Or is it that because
it's DCI, it has some greater measure of officiality?

The DCI was providing prize support for tournaments sanctioned by V:EKN. The DCI
is now actually undertaking the entire sanctioning process. A rating system
(hopefully very very close to the existing system) is also going to be
implemented. The existing ratings should be able to be transfered over as well.

All VTES sanctioning requests should be sent to Linda Roberts at

This is an actual change in policy. Honestly I think the discussions on VTES-L
and the many letters written directly to WotC executives made an impact.

I suspect that it is just the corporate "machine" finally catching up

with itself, and announcing what happened months ago. (Note, this was
cross-posted to a plethora of rec.games.trading-cards.* groups...)
Any other industry, and the co. would sink like a stone for taking so
long in informing the general public. (head shaking) I'm in the wrong

If anything, this does seem to give LSJ a bit more authority over

rules decisions (he's now considered "the rules team").
