On Saturday January 19th 2002 I hosted and judged Dramatic Upheaval
Columbus. It took place in the Guard Tower game store here in Columbus
Ohio. Many thanks to them for having us. Twenty-four players participated,
keeping me from being able to evoke the multi-judge rules. Of the
twenty-four, fourteen were from outside of central Ohio, and seven were
V:EKN Princes.
Of the fifteen qualifying games, fourteen of them had game wins. None
of them exceeded the two hour time limit. Was this a sign of players being
aware of, and changing their style of play to fit the new tournament
environment? Maybe so. Given the commonality of game wins the final round
participants would have been the same under both the new and old tournament
rules. Here are the standings going into the final round:

Thanks for a great tournament Jay! I had lots of fun (though not so much
sleep).

The one game that I won was rather amusing in that I had four vampires
burned and six in torpor yet still managed to win the game. I ousted two
prey but then ended up sandwiched between two THA decks that tag-teamed my
minions like there was no tomorrow. It was rather funny actually.

I would also like to say that I was very impressed by the level of
sportsmanship in Ohio. People played with honour, won with class and lost
with dignity.

The pizza in Columbus wasn't half-bad either!

Cheers,
WES

And not a bit of profanity, anywhere! :)

If you're referring to the place next door, I fear to ever visit your
home town and experience the pizza you have there... if you're
referring to another pizza place in town (like... hound dogs) then
I'll agree. Good pizza.

Till next time.

So this dude with a deck consisting of AUS +1 bleed permanent vampires
(toreador, malks, anti-tor, etc...)'s deck consisted of probably 15
ascensions, 10 telepathic counters, 10 intercept, 5 wooden stakes,
some odd generic combat cards (lucky blow, and dodges... even though
all his vamps we saw had Aus, at least, and could have redrawn that
combat...), and computer hacks...

Odd deck to say the last, and even more odd, it got a table win on the
first table I was on...

At one time, I counted his pool and the ascensions in his discard
pile, and they were equal, at 10. Funny that...

Other comments: I had great fun taking pictures for Aaron, sorry I
didn't get any interesting crazy pictures, but... you guys just didn't
do anything interesting or crazy (like jump on the gaming table and
declare that all methuselahs are your b*tch@s)...

I saw two blood lines decks. A Kiasyd Lasombra stealth bleed (with
some off bruise on occasion) deck, played by Nick (made into finals).
Another that consistantly got out a DoC, then an independent gargoyle
weenie, and then a baali, which went out for concordance... I don't
think it scored ANY VP, but the guy was a real sharp player and came
close, and survived a long time in the games...

Most interesting game I played in, Aaron was my predator with Pulse of
Canaile Mask of 1000 faces deck (as I'm calling it), myself a not so
effective FoS SB and my prey Kiasyd reduce bleed, and what else I
don't know...

I tempted my grand preys minion tapped Roxanne, who had a pulse of
canaille on herself, and then I tempted my predator's ozmo or
something, also with a pulse... it turned out I got them on the same
turn, and used them and my three other minions (one who had tempted
herself) to bleed my prey out... next turn I got hit for 12 or
something rediculous like that... all well. I was really just trying
to help Aaron get into the finals. :)

Thanks all who attened, jay for spending an obscene amount of time in
organizing it, and to the gaurdtower for having the space for the
tournament (even though there was another gaming event going on that
day, too).

One other thing. It was nice to see people NOT bitching about someone
playing old-school stealth/bleed. It may not be the most beloved style
of choice, but is a completely valid tourney style.
While constant bleeds in excess of 5-6 per turn get rediculous, maybe it
can remind people why Archon Investigation was printed in the first
place.

Kudos to the winner, just wish I was his prey (my deck was built to take
advantage of stealth/bleeders).

That would be Aaron from West Michigan. Didn't get a chance to
see the deck in action, but he had fun which is what counts.

Hey! I was your prey sitting with the THREE Kiasyd in front of you.
Math Check :-)

The one time in the tourney I get a bleed deck behind me and my
hand is full of combat. No wakes or Deflects :-(
Serves me right for bringing a storyline deck to a standard tourney.
