What is your best Anathema deck?
I am leaning towards Tremere and their Thefting ability. G1/2 seems
better in this case with Cardano and Ulugh having for at least, and cel,
so they could Forced March/Freak too.
EuroBrujah seems good too. And they always have Dom for backup.
Nos royalty seems so strong, both literally with their Potence (most of
them have at superior), and due to the presence of ani for crows.
Toreador have the skills to help you pass the votes if you don't have
vote lock. But how well can they reduce someone to 0 blood? Cel/Guns?
Ventrue, sure they will get the vote passed. But why use them to
Anathema, when they can oust in so many better ways.
Anathema seems great on paper. What do you think?

I think the main problem with anathema is the following:
To use anathema to remove a vampire and gain pool, you need to take at
least two actions, of which one usually isn't at stealth.
Also, unless you're truly in trouble, its a very difficult vote to
negotiate.
So usually you will need vote supremacy, and combat, to remove a
vampire and gain pool. Also, often you will need stealth, to be able
to combat the right target. Last but not least, if you fail, you risk
giving someone else the pool from the vampire.
Whereas, if you already have vote supremacy and are able to pass
votes, technically it'll usually be more efficient to play a
banishment and then a pool gaining vote. This way you face less risk
and complications.
I'd say nosferatu royalty, with or without beast, would be a good
option.
Tremere do not have the ability to pass votes reliably, which is
essential for anathema, which most voting decks cannot benefit from
and will be unlikely to let pass.
Toreador and Ventrue could work, if you also include alastor.
Cheers,
Bram
My fave Anathema deck is simple, efficient and brutal
Brujah debates, all the g1-2 princes doubled up, along with 2
justicars. 12 3rd traditions, 4 reinforcements, 6 anathemas. a 1 cap
with 6 str and 5 manuevers is bad, bad news.... have taken down
combat, stealth bleed and vote with this. use haven u for rush, so set
bvamp up with anathema first, then next turn HU and weenie rush...
But when it cames to raw power of usage of anathema, the best is the
one Justicar of a clan that is not camarilla based, Tegyrious.

A few of them are discussing the Anathema starter though.
I believe a Ventrue Anathema with a rushing Salubri would do wonders
for a trick Anathema deck. See below:

The Camarilla princes have enlisted the help of Matthias to
permanently remove the Anathema that surround them. Originally
designed in response to a challenge by Chris Shorb on May 12th 2007,
the deck has yet to see play. Bring out a prince and Matthias. Call
Anathema and then rush that vampire when they are on 3 or less blood
and Matthias will make the Anathema pop after revealing his Vitae

Tradition. Get a prince on a Sport Bike to block those three stealth
actions that are becoming more common. The trophies and Tension in
the Ranks will help the longevity of the deck as well.

I suddendly had a vision of Lernean with Infernal Pact (granting her Obeah)
burning Anathemas. Vitae Block, Psyche!, Vitae Block,... Or Vitae Block,
Theft, burn blood for an additional strike, Theft,...
Probably not viable, because Anathema would require a prince or a justicar as
well, but fun to contemplate.

Have you considered an Anthelios or two to help cycle the excess
unique masters for those that went into play and are now in your ash
heap?
If you do manage the three master phase actions per turn, it will
definitely help to cycle your hand at the beginning of the turn.
>I didn't even realize I was issuing a "challenge"!
Sure, but I chose to treat it that way.
:>
I remember having an Anathema deck, with Nos princes and Beast, that
Nikki used to play. I don't appear to have any record of its exact
contents though. You may have experienced it while she was playing
with the LA/Torrance groups.
Carpe noctem.
Lasombra
I've recently been working on an obea anathema deck. Only tested it
in a small tourney so far. It runs Saulot as the main playe, for a
couple of reasons:
1. He has access to both obeah and Thaum, making him ideal for
bringing vampires down to zero regardless of damage prevention(in
fact, he can burn 8 blood un-dodgeably via, block, telepathic
tracking, blood to water).
2. His govern ability is ridiculously good throughout the whole game,
allowing me to get Lucinde Alastor for effectively 6 pool, and later,
acting as a double blood doll for bloating.
I was originally running very heavy on thaum and Obeah, but I'm now
testing out running stuff like Vampiric Disease and Society of
Leopold, and young bloods to soften people up, so they'll be burned
right away when vitae block hits. Sorry I don't have access to my
deck list at the moment... but thoughts on the two approaches might be
nice. Oh yeah, the crypt = 6 saulot, 4 lucinde, and 2 of that Ventrue
prince who has inferior thaum and a press.
Don't have the decklist anymore though.

Could NOT work spectacularily well, due to the unhotness of the
mergingmechanics and lack of stealth. +1 stealth political actions
with a few votes does not a stable deck make.
There was also a similar concept around Aziz, which worked much
better. Made 2nd in a ~20 player tournament as I recall, but that was
more votes, less fight. A few rushes via contracts and a couple
Anathema's. Basic PRE/OBF crypt sprinkled with Cel for additional
combatness and a few Thinbloods.
Could generate reliable stealth both for votes and rushes, and
reliable votes to pass the Anathemas.
And, when you pulled it off, you combo'd an additional vote for Aziz.
What could go wrong, really? ;)
I like the Matthias idea, but feel that Alastor decks are also very
very viable what with having an easy delivery method handy.
Anthelios sounds good, but there are only 2 unique masters. however
quite often find myself holding excess BD's, so good idea. thanks
Someone told me about this crazy(?) combo, suites well in Anathema
deck (pulls off ...maybe never)
Rebecca (PRE THA AUS pot +1stealth) Majesty, Telep. Tracking, Blood

But yeap, restricted vitae might help
The only thing I can add that sometimes you may play Anathema NOT to
gain pool, but to control the table. You may save your rush predator
against his S&B predator with just one card: the grandpredator loses a
vampire, the predator gains some pool.
Here's my deck for the "challenge". Note that it doesn't have rush at
all: Anneke can block the vampire with Anathema. Or you may just
control the table with it.

Yeeah, I'm trying restricted vitae atm, I'll see how it goes.
As for Blood to water... I'd say at least a couple are a must if
you're running people with even inferior thaum. Its nice for burning
the anathema... and its even nicer against the Imbued/War ghoul decks
that anathema is useless against.
