This last weekend at UBCon '97 in Buffalo NY, James Hamblin ran a standard
DCI Jyhad/V:TES tourney, and while the turnout wasn't huge, the
competition was good and we had a great time. There were eight players,
so we played 2 four player games for 3 rounds, rotating players so
everyone got to play with everyone, and then the four players with the
best scores played a fourth Finals round for victory. 1st place went to
Josh Duffin's Brujah rush deck, 2nd went to my Marty Lechtansi deck, and
3rd was a tie between Rich Braxton's Soul Gem/RTI deck and William
Johengen's weenie Obf/Pre deck.
The eight decks were:
Josh Duffin's Brujah Rush deck: Lots of Torn Signposts, Additional
Strikes, and Immortal Grapples to kill all who opposed him, with a dash of
Con Boon and Anathemas for pool gain.
Peter Bakija's Marty Lechtansi deck: A Pot/For/Ani/Dom combat deck with
lots of Potence, Skin of Steel and Immortal Grapples to Rush people with,
Drawing out the Beast to avoid manuvers and a good supply of Govern the
Unaligned and Deflections.
Rich Braxton's RTI/Soul Gem deck: A variation on the "Etrius" deck with
lots of huge vampires, Tombs, Soul Gems, Return to Innocence, and
unblockability. Rich described his own deck as "Pure Cheese." Was seen
bleeding for 13 with Basillia, who then handed off her Soul Gem to
Gwendolyn...
William Johengen's Obf/Pre bleed deck: Lots of little vamps with Pre and
Obf for a quick S+B deck backed with S:CE for combat defense.
Gabriel Balo's Toreador intercept deck: A fairly straight forward
Toreador intercept deck with Aus and Cel with which to additionally strike
with Sengir Daggers.
James Cole's Gangrel Rush deck: Lots of small Pro vamps (along with
Badger and Zack), Claws of the Dead, Skin of Rock, and untaps a plenty.
Walter Wojcik's Malkavian deck: A crazy Malk deck with S+B, Zip Guns,
Dragon Breath Rounds, and Intercept to boot.
Tom Auler's Lasombra deck: Fairly straight forward Lasombra bleed deck
with Bondings, some Pot for combat, and Obtenebration for S:CE and
Intercepting stuff.
The Final round had, in seat order, Rich, Josh, William, and me (Peter).
William's S+B deck had trouble dealing with the Immortal Grapple powered
Rush decks flanking him, so he got off to a slow start, but Bled me down
to 3 Pool before he was ousted by Josh. Rich's RTI deck built up to
speed, had Etrius Diablerized by KoKo (the Nosferatu Justicar...),
attempted to bleed Josh for 13 or so with Wynn only to discover Josh was
holding an Archon Investigation (the hard way), after which I ousted him.
At this point I had about 9 pool and 2 vamps (after Josh chose to contest
my KoKo the Justicar) and Josh had 5 vamps and about 18 pool. Josh ousted
me fairly quickly, taking 1st place.
