Onwards to the report! This is quite a lengthy report, since I took a
lot of notes, but I hope its allright and readable. I might have
messed up a name here or there and if I did, im terribly sorry. Im
just terrible when it comes to names :(
(oh and we were 12 players playing, all motivations got played)
----------------Round
1----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juri (Porphyrion superstar) -> Me (Followers of Seth & Pariah) ->
Henri (Vladimir Rustovitch block) -> Akseli (Kiasyd motivated by
Gehenna)
I had double(!) Pariah in my starting crypt so I didnt need to fish
for him, a good way to start! My predator plays eternal to sirius to
boost out Porphyrion and I had to read his card text and noted down
his awesome discipline spread (which Juri utilized well in his deck).
My prey discards a eagle sight as his first discard and I think about
my hand some if I can push stuff through carefully or not, with a
Pentex subversion smiling at me comfortably. My predator blasts off in
full gear gaining some pool, bleeding into me hard, freak driving,
using Enticement and put up a Mylan. The bleed and stealth cards in my
hand goes to town on my poor prey that hickups on intercept/wakes
since I decide to make his life miserable with misdirection and pentex
subversion on consecutive turns. My vampires feels the blood loss
though. Motivated by jyhad is a really hungry card. I draw a wolf claw
from my discard and planned on dunking Porphyrion with it the next
turn.
My table ally dumps one of Porphyrions underling into torpor after
showing that he got a large combat module within his deck. Neato! :)
Juri untap and puts a secure haven on Porphyrion stopping all plans on
my Pariah rush on him and all motivated by gehenna-rushes from the
Kiasyd. Grrr...anyway his turn consists of getting some pool, some
blood on Porphyrion and a Mokolé Blood and bleeding for 2, passing to
me. Untapping my brave army and trying to figure out the safe pool
number to stay on during my master phase and after consulting my hand
to check for bleed boosters and stealth I play barrens, cycle away the
drawn claw and am satisfied with the pool number of 9 for now after
using only 1 blood doll. All 3 of my vampires bleed into the Tzimice,
one gets bounced into the kiasyd, but I do heavy damage anyway and
gain one pool from the Legal manipulations upping my life savings to
10. My prey is down to 7 and I got enough gas in my hand to oust him
next turn even if he draws another bounce.
My prey passes to the Kiasyd who bully bleeds with governs and leaves
the Porphyrion-deck at 5 pool. Its a pretty cutthroat air over the
table, everything is about to collapse for someone and theres a thin
line between a VP and death for everyone (except the healthy looking
Kiasyd). Juri plays a dreams of the sphinx and promptly use it to dig
for cards, he ponders his options and then decide to go for it - He
uses up every card on the Mokolé blood, a freak drive, Mylan Horseeds
untap and absolutely smokes my pool! I'm ousted with a "what the heck
just happened?" stare =) Edge vititation in my face for the final
three finished the smooth moves.
I left the table after shaking hands to watch the other games going
on, the Kiasyd deck eventually got an oust and then the Tzimice got it
in the heads up game.
----------------Round
2----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tommi (Lasombra Arms/Entombment/Amaranth) -> Alex (FoS & Pariah) ->
Raymond (Followers of Seth S&B) -> Henri (Vladimir Rustovitch block)
This was an interesting table with a lot going on in the micro
perspective, sadly my notes from this round was spread out badly on my
piece of paper so the happenings of round 2 at my table is a bit
scrambled. Powerbase: Montreal came down on the first turn for the
tzimice and then it proceeded to switch owner about 6-7 times,
everyone on the table got to use it at least once in the game. Raymond
influenced out minions and went straight for Henri's pool, so again he
was pressed with his back against the wall from the very start and
grasped for pool but was always on the lookout to move forward. I had
no idea what I had as a predator, his first influenced minion was an
anarch convert that bled me and then he influenced out some lasombras
so it took a while into the game to figure out his angle.
A Tension in the ranks lands on the table and Jane Sims, trusty
servant of Vladimir Rustovitch, picked up the codex at some point and
she used it well! I think she killed off 6 pool in total from the
Lasombras (might have been more, but the 6 is the ones I remember).
Rustovitch decided to rush one of the lasombras:
- He plays flesh of marble (nice splash-discipline usage!), carrion
crows and strikes for three with Starvation of Marena, cycling a ton
of cards in the process.
- The Lasombra vampire responds by striking with an arms of the abyss,
taking two from the crows and shipping Rustovitch to torpor via an
entombment.
Disheartened Henri passes his turn to Tommi who bullies me with
Governs and ponders if he should jump or not via the Motivation of
Gehenna. He decides to hunt some instead.
(Rustovitch gets rescued out of torpor during the next turn following
this combat)
I set Pariah up with a spying mission and some casual bleeding,
influenced up a third minion. The next turn I had enough bleed power
to push Raymond out of the game and giving Pariah his first scalp :]
My vampires are really, really low on blood though and the threat of 2
Motivated by Gehenna decks and me in the middle makes me thinking
about how to handle the situation. I discarded a wolf claw, with a
second aggrevated source in hand just in case I needed to backrush the
lasombras if he decides to play it ruff much longer. I had the
PB:Montreal the majority of the game and put the pool into good use as
a buffer to anything the Lasombra might do to me eventually.
The tzimice grabb some blood off his vessels, plays a Rack on one of
his vampires. Clearly signaling hes not going to die without a good
fight. Tommi untaps his minions, use Twilight camp to move a blood,
doing some quick calculations, check my ash heap for clues and then
promptly rush Pariah. I try to run away with a swallowed by the night,
he move us back in to close and play the Arms/Entombment/Amaranth
combo. I count the votes on the table - which was simple since there
was exactly zero. I burn the edge in favour to burn the diablerist. He
plays Lay Low to defend his anarchist lasombra - attack of the promo
cards! :) He bleeds me, leaving me to untap with only 2 low-blooded
followers of seth and 4 tiny pool. Tommi himself is at 1 pool though
so he's hard pressed too, but he got 4 minions and look really
confident with his hand. Woe is me. I push a bleed for 2 through and
keep my other vampire up. I snatch a pool via PB:Montreal, discard and
pass my turn.
Tzimice gets a pool via vessel+Rack, discard and passes. Tommi thinks
for a bit how to do his master phases but decides to play something I
dont remember, but this is key - He got an Anarch Convert thats empty
and needs to hunt and he still got counters on his twilight camp he
could've moved to the convert instead. He realises his mistake when he
enters his minion phase and need to hunt with his convert which the
Tzimices isnt late to pick up on, blocking the poor convert slapping
him into torpor and Tommi must burn his last pool due to the tensions
in the ranks! Boosted by 6 extra pool and me pretty crippled Henri
grabbs the game win - Really resiliant deck that can get up and going
from nowhere :)
Other round 2 stories:
- Jussi and his predator contests the Brujah justicar title from turn 3
(?) onwards. :(
- The Kiasyd combat module outshines Ivory Bow with Darkling Trickery,
a true gem of a card that would've
trumped the possible incoming Assault Rifles from the brujah-players
(if it werent for them contesting titles ;)
- I watched as 5 or 6 anarch Malkavians with a ton of locations in
play skullduggery bleed and did other trixy stuff
- The Porphyrion deck apperantly had some copies of Sensory
Deprivation in it!
----------------Round
3----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juri (Porphyrion superstar) -> Jouko (Ishtari /w Ally friends) ->
Tommi.H (Akunanse Trophy) -> Alex (FoS & Pariah)
So, I get the opportunity to avenge my first round loss to the one
responsible for my ousting! Mohahahaha.
Jouko played a cool looking deck I only caught glimpses of here and
there, its a neat little Ishtari-centered deck that uses various
allies and use the Laibon-gets-a-card advantage of the storyline rules
to fetch out relevant events for his allies (FBI, Unmasking).
Unfortuntatly he never gets his wheels greased before Porphyrion eats
through his pool like it was candy. Tommi. H tools up in this window
before Jouko gets ousted with Heart of Cheating, ivory bow, No Secrets
from the magaji and put Trophy: Domain into play. And to top it all
off he makes one of my followers of seth a red list. I bleed out Juri
pretty quickly after he finishes Jouko out, but my vampires are in bad
shape - Jyhad takes its toll...When I finished him up I stare at an
Akunanse deck with 15 pool, 3 full vampires and the ability to
generate one pool per turn.
"Well, I should probably give up now, but thats no fun." I say and
pass my turn over to Tommi.H. He untaps, rushes my follower who is red-
listed, plinks with the ivory bow and amaranth it. Grabbing Domain +
Hunting Ground as trophies.
"Ok. Scoop phase".
=P
---------------- FINALS
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The motivation is next to the deck name:
Malgorzata Crypt blower [Secrecy] ->
Rustovitch Blockish [Gehenna] ->
Malkavian anarchs [Knowledge] ->
Kiasyd Motivated by Gehenna [Gehenna] ->
Brujah Alastors /w Parity Shifts and Guns [Gehenna] ->
Brujah ousts Malgorzata. Tzimice ousts the Malkavians and backousts
the Brujahs.
Kiasyd finaly kills the Rustovitch gang via an epic fight were he used
Darkling trickery on ivory bow shots twice, sending the wielder to
torpor leaving the Tzimice no choice but to burn its last pool due to
the tension in the ranks. So the Kiasyd seals the deal with 3VPS and
the GW in the finals. Congratulations Akseli to the win! :)
----------------My deck and some ending notes
---------------------------------
So, I had very little time to prepare and cards in two different
countries so I was looking for inspiration about 2 weeks ahead of the
storyline - I dug around in the card piles I had in Oslo to try and
figure out what I could make. After seeing Vegards (the Prince of
Oslo) plee for abomination win I decided to pick up my copies of
Pariah and go to the deckbuilding workshop to figure out a layout for
a deck. This is the deck I scraped together if anyone happens to be
interested in some untuned crap:
Deck: Alex's Turku storyline deck
Description: Followers of Seth stealth-bleeder powered up by Pariah/A
ton of masters, a totaly out-of-character deck for me to play since it
contains few ways to lightly control the table in one way or another
and almost nothing when it comes to permanents. Lacked blood gain to
really milk everything out of Motivated by Jyhad which was my chosen
motivation.
Crypt:
3 Pariah - OBF PRO pre pot - 6 cap. +1 Str. Jumps.
2 Nepata - obf pre ser - 4 cap.
3 Hadrian Garrick - obf pre - 4 cap. +1 str.
2 Celine Chevalier - obf ser. 3 cap.
1 Sir Marriot D'Urban. 5 cap. PRE ser obf aus.
1 Count Ormonde. 5 cap. OBF pre ser dom.

2 Parthenon, the
1 Anarch Troublemaker
1 Barrens, the

1 Temple Hunting Ground
1 Giants Blood
1 Opium Den
// The Brothers Grim and Parthenons sucked, they were only used for
Pariah fodder all day and I never got any additional use out of them.
The Last Stand should maby be dropped as well. These should be
replaced with life in the city, perhaps a copy of Fear of Mekhet or
some other hoser. The sudden reversals was *outstanding*

7 Legal Manipulation
1 Entrancement
3 Enchant Kindred

//I actually never got around to use Pariah's rush nor any aggrevated
shenanigans in the tournament. On paper it was good, but reality was
that everyone around me packed something that stopped this plan dead
in its tracks. Should probably be some majesty or such in here as
backup for the gimpy followers.
Event: - 1
1 Anthelios the red star
A very nice report. It is always fun to read someone else's point of
view. I remember your "ouch" when I played Secure Haven on Porphyrion.
Looks like it made my game after all.
Oh, and a little correction: I played Visit from the Capuchin, not
Dreams of the Sphinx.
And if I can make a suggestion of your deck to you: put a couple of
Agent of Power and/or Protean MD in your deck. That way you can play
an agg. hand damage also from other vampires. And maybe put also
Dedefra and Danny Larkshill to your crypt.
Hope we see you on next Ropecon. There are lots of ropes and good
games. ;)
- Jyri Goronaga
> Oh, and a little correction: I played Visit from the Capuchin, not
> Dreams of the Sphinx.
Right! Visit from the Cap is an awesome card, especially in your deck
that rotates cards good.
> Hope we see you on next Ropecon. There are lots of ropes and good
> games. ;)
Yeah, I'm hoping I can make it too :)
Hope to see you again, maybe in Ropecon 2010.
Full tournament results are still pending our prince's actions and
will be published in Powerbase: Turku (http://www.tenerdo.org/)
