Another mid-month Saturday, another Jyhad tournament at Second Byte, ably
organised and judged by the magnificent John Eagles. By common consent this
was probably the best tournament we have had so far, due to the EXTRAORDINARY
proliferation of combat decks, four of which made it to the final. All that
collusion and heavy hinting clearly paid off, huh? Moreover [I would take a
deep breath here, if i could still breath] .... a combat deck actually
won!!!! Here are the results:

1. Jon Cooper 4 + 3 [pot/pro/cel/dom rush combat and dominate
bleed/deflection, lots of Brujah Princes and justicars, Carthage remembered
for surprise stealth]. 2. Rob Treasure 16 + 2 [Pander/Legacy vote deck
with presence and Jost Werner]. 3. William Lee 7 + 1 [pot/for/cel Rush-Fame
deck relying rather heavily on Beast]. 4. Michael Beer 4 + 0 [Political
rush-combat: Brujah Princes with Blood Hunt and anathema for pool gain]. 5.
Legbiter 5 + 0 [Setite Giovanni Embrace/Obf swarm deck with rush combat
from Talbot's chainsaw/Ambrosius combo]. 6. James Coupe 9 + 0
[Presence/vote deck].

7. Adam Lewis 2 8. Louisa Cowie 1 9=. Pierre Rebstock 0, John
Barber 0, Rob Shread 0, Pat Vance 0, James Lewis 0, John Keech 0, Jonathan
Bailey 0, Mike Burns 0.

The two funniest passages of play both involved Beast. In the last heat,
Pierre was going down before the might of William Lee's ferocity, but William
still brought out Beast. Pierre's turn: Master: Haven uncovered on Beast!
Minion: Camille attacks Beast! No manouever, Wolf's Claws, prevent Beast's
damage, Amaranth to burn Beast!!!

And in the final, the Corrupt hordes of Legbiter had managed to put 7/8
Corruption counters on the aesthetically-challenged Hero of Detroit. Plus,
Michael Beer's merry crew had whacked him into torpor. Jon's Master: Golconda
on Beast. Now if that don't cry out for a story-telling interpretation, i
don't know what does!

Our next date is 12th of December and doubtless the Christmas spirit will be
flowing like a very flowy thing. I'll post a more considered evaluation of
the tournament, i dunno, probably thursday after i get back from Oxford. Till
then, kisses from

Legbiter.

So, a few comments are probably in order here. As shown by its 16 VP in the
preliminary heats, Rob's weenie/Jost deck was heavily dominant in the early
games. It's a very nice deck - lots of flexibility and weird cards, including
fear of Mekhet, which he actually managed to play in the final, burning Don
Cruez. Also very dominant was James Coupe's voting deck - well played James!
And as for my Setite/Giovanni deck, its place in the final was down to
completely sweeping the first game i played in. Ironically enough, one of my
victims was Jon, the eventual winner of the tournament .. and in another
heat, James Coupe beat Jon, too. All of which i think goes to prove the point
that combat decks win when there are lots of them!

Also, the Setite/Giovanni deck was not the deck i intended to play at all ..
i was going to make an ani'for combat deck but when i tried it out against
Michael after he got off the ferry it STANK. So Michael suggested i use the
setite/ giovanni thing, i did, and it kicked. EXCELLENT fun.

Louisa's first VPs in Portsmouth tournaments!! Well done, Lou!

In the evening Michael Beer [Gangrel combat], Michael the Childe of Legbiter
[Malkavian stealth/bleed and disguised weapon], Lady Legbiter [anti-Malkavian
stealth/bleed, Malkavian game and disguised weapon] and i enjoyed a friendly
foursome .... i used my Legbiter's leftovers deck which is an off-clan
viscissitude deck, that's to say it uses vampires who have viscissitude but
are not Tzimisces. I made this deck by accident, really .... it has lots of
other disciplines like dominate for bleed and deflection, potence and
animalism for combat, and celerity for extra strikes. Anyway, i won ...
Michael C of L was first out after a big deflection and GtU, and then Michael
B [another GtU]. That left Lady Legbiter and m'self to duke it out as we do
most nights, and usually she wins, because she ALWAYS wins the F*****g
Malkavian games .... but this time, with 12 extra pool under my belt, and she
a bit short of minions as a result of an unhealthily-long time being Michael
B's prey, i was able to outlast and eventually oust her. I'll post the deck
one of these days .. it works surprisingly well, considering its complete
lack of legical design principles.
