Fortitude Weenies give me the creeps :-)
Despite how one might expect a deck like this to play, Robin is an
extremely crafty and conservative player. If you expect her to throw
herself forward and crash on the rocks, you're dead wrong. It was good
play that won Robin the final round. Trying to rush everyone and play
Trap/UP is generally the opposite of that.
That said, while I certainly don't mean to take anything away from
Robin, I'd like to note for whatever reason that she got 2 free VPs
and stole 2 VPs 1 GW from me by using dominate. Not in the deck, but
in real life. I was pretty much set up for a 100% definite sweep of
our 4 player game, but then she reminded her prey of the option to
transfer out, which she took without further discussion. Then her next
prey untapped and decided to pool sack with his 4 remaining pool.
Despite her getting 2 VPs and 12 free pool for doing absolutely
nothing, I still ousted her in the end game. Had that nonsense not
happened, I don't think she would have been in the final table.
In retrospect, I should have called Kevin over when my predator
started suffering from retardedtude. He still had guys in play and
stuff to do, but chose instead to shuffle his cards and sack. Since
the decision was made so quickly, and he had already picked up his
cards, I guess it seemed like a done deal. In fact, he broke 3
tournament rules. He definitely was not playing to win (whereas Shy,
who transferred out really had no chance), he cheated to lose by
scooping his cards before he was ousted, which is poor sportsmanship
for pretty obvious reasons. Despite my apparent attitude on the
intarweb, I must just be too good natured, because I really should
have called that guy on his crap.
I'm pretty annoyed about this, because I would have been 1st seed, and
the winner of the tournament wouldn't have been playing, giving me an
elevated chance of winning. As the final ended up, only 1 player got
ousted and then we went to time, so it is very very easy to imagine
myself winning the final game we should have played. I might have lost
a tournament win because some guy who plays nothing but Assamites
cheated to lose and a new player transferred out. Damn it.
Jesse
Shyla was punishing you for looking ahead and torping her famous
minion before I was actually ousted.
As for James? He had 4 pool and said he had no untap and 4 bleeders
behind him. He could think of no way you could stop that. Don't be
too upset with him. I was holding the Steely Tenacity, and would've
thrown everything I had at him in the attempt to oust him.

I had 2-1/2 VPS when time was called.
Robyn
I dont. Actually I was referring to the fact that fortitude weenies
trump a lot of the other deck schemes I usually play.
So they give me the creeps because I usually plan for most things but
then some random fortitude weenie deck shows up and wrecks my game,
like: damn I could have handled Potence and Celerity but Fortitude
weenies WTF!?! ;-)
Nice that he just up and quit instead of making you play it out, and
actually killing him on your own. Absolutely ridiculous that he
scooped and absolutely ridiculous that Jesse didn't call me over.
Well, that's a lesson for Jesse, I guess. :P

Where did you get the idea that he just wandered off?
I took actions and bled him for the remaining 4 pool.

To me, 'pool-sack' doesn't mean "He allowed himself to be bled
when he couldn't do anything about it" especially given the context
of Jesse's post.
> I took actions and bled him for the remaining 4 pool.
Good to hear. I guess Jesse meant something else? :P
Robyn mentioned beforehands that he had everything tapped and no wakes
in hand. While scooping the cards is against the rules effectively it
did not change a thing.

I think he was just very upset :-)
Happens to me as well, so I know :-))
Jesse's version of events states that James (the player in question)
"scooped" during his own untap phase, and I don't recall Robyn saying
James was tapped out, just that she took the four actions to bleed him
out. Whether he had no wakes or not, he had a full turn and Jesse had
a full turn to go. Even if James' own hypothesis that he had no way
to survive Robyn's turn would prove right, there are two whole turns
worth of game in which things might change.
I'm not, by the way, trying to cast any aspersions on Robyn's win here
- to me, this isn't about what she did or didn't "earn," and she
certainly didn't do anything even slightly shady. It's the pre-oust
scooping that's bothersome, especially since there wasn't much reason
to that I can see. If James really wanted to not do anything at all,
he could have done that with his cards on the table for another 5
minutes or so, and if he really really wanted to give Robyn the VP, he
could have transferred out.
I suppose it's plausible that he was trying to set up a situation
where he was essentially giving Jesse a turn to oust Robyn and thus
get both VP's, giving Robyn a free shot at him, and aiming not to hurt
Jesse with extra bleeds, ie trying to be neutral in the matter. But I
can't see (if that's the goal) why not leave the cards out there, pass
your turn, declare that at the moment you don't intend to block
anything (you're losing in the manner of your choosing), and see
whether what happens on Jesse's turn (and possibly Robyn's) puts you
back into a salvageable position.

Robyn responded to the self ousting point:
> Shyla was punishing you for looking ahead and torping her famous
> minion before I was actually ousted.
That's true perhaps, though it seemed to me that she decided on that
explanation after the fact, because I was the first to offer it. My
interpretation was that she knew she couldn't do anything to win, and
just wanted out of the game faster.

He could have stayed untapped to block, or tried to deal with me. I
had a prince in play, so maybe I could have Parity Shifted or
something. My deck didn't have PS, though it did for a while, but he
didn't know that. Maybe I would found one your guys' adresses on
Facebook and trashed him, or whatever. He was by no means guaranteed
to be ousted on your next turn, if I remember the state correctly. My
interpretation is that he scooped to spite me, just because I was
playing a strong defensive deck and I wasn't letting him oust me.
Also, he scooped when there was still some VTES left to be played, and
when he did so he took his cards off the table. That move was illegal
or the 3 reasons I named, and once it was done there was no way to go
back on it, which is why I didn't bother calling Kevin. In retrospect,
I should have.
I mistakenly wrote some words, and Robyn corrected me:

Ah that's right. You did get your second VP just before time was
called. Anyhow, that part of it is relatively insignificant. I'm
obviously not saying I would have won the final had things not gone
down the way they did round 2, because that would be stupid. I am
saying that I would have had a better chance, however.
Jesse
Oh no!
I was attempting to make you feel better
by illustrating what lead to Shy's decision so you didn't have spend
time guessing at what appeared to you to be
thoroughly uh......(knowing and sympathetic expression..) capricious
behavior cross table there.....
I am very sorry if my post appeared to be defensive or sharp toned.
That was not my intention.
Regarding my comment about the VP spread. While that section of the
post was factual, I was, in fact, QUITE defensive about it. : )
Man.....I'm just glad you didn't have a Life Boon somewhere in your
deck. : )

Oh yes! It looked to me like you were defending Shyla, despite the
fact that I'm totally not meaning to attack her. Also, I feel totally
ok with the whole thing; I'm just using some spare time to describe
what I think happened in a game of friendly yet competitive VTES. I
honestly do think that her decision was somewhat capricious (I don't
suppose she'll pop up on the NG to enlighten us), as it looked to me
like she just wanted to be ousted sooner rather than later, and didn't
really care who got the VP. Too bad for me; it's not as though she'd
have been in the game more than another 2 or 3 minutes at that
point...

Cool, nor was it mine.

I'm over it.

It would have to have been in the 7.77777... percent of the deck I was
holding in front of my face at the time for it to have helped me. If
it had to be in any other part of the deck, I'd probably be glad along
with you that it was not.

Thanks, dude. That means a lot coming from you.

Shy does not read the newsgroup. I could prod her to read this if you
really want me to.
But the spiteful "you don't get my vp" occurs here in Winnipeg from
time to time and I imagine that Shy may have witnessed it in some of
our regular tournament games. It definitely gets tossed around as a
threat here, specially by certain players. At Origins, it was related
to me by Shyla after the game that she did not think you were going to
torporize her last minion (famous) when you blocked after the bounce,
and that transferring out was to specifically punish you for it.
I believe her position of being on something like three pool with a
famous minion in torpor and having just lost Lutz to an AI, with her
cross-table predator doing the dunking (and so being unlikely to
rescue) clearly constituted a lost position. And Shy is well aware of
the rule that if in a lost position she has the privilege to collect
her zero VPs however she desires. I cannot comment on where the
genesis for the idea came from to self oust in that game as I was
keeping away from the table until it was complete.
