Serenading the Champion

Here is a scenario:

Masika St. John attempts a bleed action, and plays Serenading the Kami as
the action is announced.
Her prey does not block, but Jack "Hannibal137" Harmon uses Champion.

Does Masika still have +2 strength?

The action "fails" but the action does not "end", and the combat happens
"instead". And all combats implicitly must be part of an action.
But is Masika still considered "The acting vampire"?

Serenading's text:
Only usable when the action is announced.
[tha] The acting vampire gets +1 strength for the duration of this action.
[tha] As above, but with +2 strength.

Champion's text:
Only usable when a monster controlled by another Methuselah is taking a
(D) action against you or against an imbued controlled by any player.
The action fails and the acting monster enters combat with this imbued
instead.

This won't affect my deck in the Qualifier today, but I just thought I
would ask... It's been awhile since I asked a kooky combo question.

Recently LSJ said something that if you play form of mist superior on
a champion, you continue a failed action.
The action's still there to continue, though. So I'd assume you'd
retain your +2 strength.

Q: Does this mean that you could not play freak drive at inferior
after all is said and done?

Freak Drive's card text prevents it from being played, yes.
At inferior, it's only usable when successful.
At superior, when action continues (and fails) "as if unblocked", the "if
blocked" test fails.
