Well, why am I bitching? Because I wanted a list of whats in and whats
out, and I don't want to hear this crap, I just want someone to send me a
list. Thanks...

Sure:
In: World Wide Web
Out: Bitching about receiving replies that aren't to your liking, when
you didn't specify "please e-mail me a complete list since I can't use
the WWW, thanks"
(Ok, so it's the short list :-)
If people go through the time and trouble of creating a useful web page,
then why clutter the (overloaded) internet bandwidth by broad-posting
information to the usenet?
"Check my webpage" uses a lot less bandwidth than a complete list.
(I will here defend my practice of posting errata summaries and so forth
as a preventative step to reduce the number of times that the same
questions are asked over and over - not that it always works)
If anyone would rather I stop posting these (lengthy) messages, I will
be content to leave them be on my jyhad page:

Just send me e-mail asking that I cease and desist.

Here's why:
1) Usenet is not interactive, and therefore people who dial up for their
connection don't need to pay the 'phone company all the time they're reading
2) Usenet extends beyond the TCP-IP parts of Internet (beyond firewall
machines and such, as well as into countries that don't have TCP-IP access)
and is therefore available to many users who cannot use Web
3) Usenet is held locally, so users who are a long way away can still use it
(have you ever tried to download a web page on another continent, when
Netscape is showing 86 characters a second, and the telephone company is
charging about the same?)

Please *don't*. An .edu site will not be available from here except between
2:00 and 8:00 GMT, due to transatlantic traffic - and I like my sleep.
