NEW YORK CITY QUALIFIER on JULY 11th

Date: 7/11/09 (Saturday)
Rounds: 3 rounds + Final
Time: 11am to 9pm

Greetings all! Sorry it took me so long to tell you guys about the
tourney but I had to work out some details.
Here's the scoop! New York Qualifier! Come play against us crazy guys!

Location: Cranberry Deli
45th Street between Broadway and 6th Ave (closer to 6th avenue)

On location: Okay guys, I was able to rent out a room that should hold
all who attend.
I was able to get a good deal because I explained that we would be
there for such a long
time and so it is just convienent that we would buy food there for
lunch and dinner.
Its actually a pretty good deli, we play there on wednesdays and they
seem pretty cool with
us as long as we by dinner there. (New York Crew, any one want to pipe
in about some more reviews?).

There will be prizes and promos!

Please show up on time. I'm hoping to start at noon but registering
everyone takes time. So don't be late!

Other tournaments:
Since we don't have a game store to play at (although Complete
Strategist is nearby for those who wish to buy cards)
tournaments/casual play on Friday and Sunday are unclear at the
moment. Casual play maybe at the Deli on Friday (like we do on
Wednesdays) and if enough people show, I'll run something.
I will update with more info when I can. Sunday I'm not sure yet as
well (sorry guys!).

So anyway, I hope that you can all show and I look forward to hanging
out with you guys again!
[I have some room to have people crash, but I'm only one guy... maybe
some of NYC can post as well!]

At least a few guys from Team Ithaca will make it. How much is the
tournament? And is there anywhere good to park? Finding parking in mid
town seems, what do you say, completely impossible...

Bah! Forgot that part.

It will be 15 dollars for Saturday event.

[For those who find it a little much, if you attended my previous
events, I always try to make sure that everyone "wins" something.]

I'm pretty sure I can make it for that, and I might even drag along
one or more people with me.

> It will be 15 dollars for Saturday event.

That's totally reasonable for a qualifier, I'd say.

Oh man, I'm still trying to forget about the "prize" I "won" last time
I was down there, though my memory is unclear as to whether or not it
was Adam I ran into that alleyway.

Very funny. I guess you forgot how each table had a winning pack (or
two?). Besides, I left you with your wallet, empty of course. But I
i'm sure ti had sentimental value.
And you are partially right, thinking about it, it was a pre-release
(KoT) not the qualifier where I had enough support where everyone got
at least one pack... (Whoops)

Just to report:

Team Ithaca is, at press time, bringing 4:
-Peter Bakija
-Dave Conroy
-Ben Kalb
-Steve Wampler

And as per previous message--is there anywhere you can reccomend for
parking? Last year, it seemed like all of mid-town in a 15 block
radius, was 2 hour parking, or no parking, or we'll blow up your car
and hunt down your family parking. I'd like to avoid paying 40 bucks
for a parking lot. But also don't want to have to park in Bay Ridge.
Or Hoboken. Any ideas?

Always check signs.
Closer to the edges is always best, so since the place is between 6th
ave and Broadway. 7th and 8th are usually crowded (but might find
something), but you might good on 9th and 10th avenue and just walk
the couple of blocks.

Philadelphia, even if only in small part, will represent.

Good to hear! This is going to be a lot of fun! (Not that I can
play... but watching it all is still pretty cool!)

Hmm. Now that I notice, is this really starting at 11:00? Or is it
"show up at 11:00, and we start at 12:00?"

The latter. The closer I can start to 12 noon the better. But of
course I will have to compensate for those making the long trip.

It looks like 4 from DC are going to be there. We're leaving Saturday
morning early, so we're going to do our best to get there on time, but
we'll get in touch if we run late.

An incredibly quickie, mostly useless New York City Qualifier
"report". There were, I think, 30 people. Adam ran a great show. The
tournament was in a (very loud :-) back room of a deli in, like, Time
Square. Lots of good food readily available (great quasi Asian buffet
all day and good coffee for a buck)! Everything went very well. I left
just as the final was starting, but it was kind of like:

-Shawn Stanley, playing something with Lutz
-Ray, playing weenies with bombs or something
-Matt Hirsch, playing Pot/For anarch combat (that got 2 game wins
before the final...)
-Jevon, playing Lasombra bleedzooka.
-Someone else?

Yeah, not great info, but I figure if I do at least this much, someone
might correct the list :-)

I got a 4VP game win with a weenie !Nos obf black hand bleed deck and
crashed and burned in my other two games due to, among other things,
really bad seating (game 1, I was the only guy at the table without
bounce with 3 bleedzooka S+B decks and Matt's Osebo wall. I stopped,
like, 15 points of bleed with Truth in Ink, but that didn't help
enough, and Jevon always had bounce in his hand so I couldn't seal the
deal with my, like, 5 Spying Missions on the table; the other game, my
prey was Raintar's Tzimisce wall deck that had untap and +4 intercept
every time I tried to take an offensive action, and Matt H's rush deck
behind me binning all my dudes. Sometimes that stuff happens :-). I
failed to qualify by virtue of me, Jesse, and Pete O all being tied
for the 8th slot with 1GW/4VP, but 'cause I got a 1/4 game win and 2
crash and burns where they both got a 1/3 game win and then 1 VP in
another game that was otherwise a sweep, I lost the Tournament Point
tie breaker by, like, 18 points or something. Jesse and Pete O were
exactly tied for the 8th slot, and we couldn't figure out what
happened when two people were exactly tied for the last spot :-)

In any case, a great time, and hope to see many of you in Ithaca on
August 1st!

That "Someone else" is Ruben Garcia, one of the best players
in Europe who now lives and works in NYC. I'd suggest you get
to know his name since he'll now be kicking your butts fairly often.
lol ;)

I suggest you get to know his name, too, because it's Ruben
Feldman. ;)

Oh, ok. That was Rueben Feldman. I didn't even know what the 5th
player even looked like--I just saw 4 people around the table figuring
out seating, knew who they were as I was helping Adam figure out the
top rankings, didn't know which of the other handful of people
standing around the table was player 5, and then left before the game
started.

Sweet. I didn't know that Ruben had moved to the states; I figured he
was just visiting. That's good news for US VTES. I hope he's still
around in the fall of 2010, because I'll probably be a grad student in
NYC at that time.

I want a sandwich now. Who won the qualifier?

Ruben kicked all of our asses. He played a perfect tourney - didn't
miss a single VP all day.

Can't help you with the sandwich. You could have bought an extra one
at the tournament.

Some guy from Switzerland swept a bunch of tables. My girlfriend
ousted Ben Peal with inexplicable help from a guy with blue hair. I
didn't buy a sufficient number of sandwiches.

But, but, there were *sooooo* many sandwiches to buy!

I gotta say--as much as I found it preposterous to try and park in
Time Square (which is why I parked in front of the Chelsea Hotel and
took the subway up), the "VTES tournament on top of a giant Asian
themed deli" plan was awesome.
