stupid action question that i should know the answer to

before you say it - i know i should know this but rescuing yourself
from torpor is a +1 stealth actio or not ? the rule books that my
newbies have is quite horrendous for explaining the rules

The Sabbat War rulebook (if you've got one) has on page 46 at the top:

6.5.2 Leave Torpor action (+1 stealth)

which may be part of the confusion. It isn't a "rescue self," it's a
"leave torpor," so you can't get an additional +1 stealth from Humanitas,
say.

Try the online rulebook (which is the same as the one shipped in the
Sabbat War starters).

6.5.2. Leave Torpor action (+1 stealth)
This is the only action a vampire in torpor can take (unless a
card [...] This action has a default +1 stealth.

Note "Rescuing" is what a vampire does to move a different vampire
to the ready region. [6.5.3]

"Leave Torpor" is what a vampire in torpor does to move himself to
the ready region.
