Hi all !

Let's see this case :
I attempted to recruit a Shambling Horde, and was blocked...
The Shambling Horde card then goes to the ash heap, and combat occurs.

Next Vampire attempts to Compel the Spirit of this last Shambling Horde. Is
this Legal ?

No.
You never successfully controlled the Shambling Horde, so you cannot use
Compel
the Spirit to bring it back. Read the card text of Compel the Spirit.

"Only usable if a retainer or ally you control has been burned since your
last turn."
