MAG is a game I wrote many years ago for the x86 platform. I
never did distribute it so I'm sure none of you have every seen it. On the
complexity scale it falls between Rogue and Hack (much closer to Rogue). I
always enjoyed the simplicity of Rogue so you'll see that it closely models
the original. If you still are playing PC Rogue to this day, you will
really enjoy this game.

Please give it a try...I'd like to get some feedback to see if it's worth
doing a windows version.

Make sure you unzip it with the -d option so that it creates the correct
directory structure!!!

It IS very nice.

how do you "run" - that is, keep moving until you hit a wall/door/corridor?

The nubs sticking out of the walls are torches. If you have a tinderbox you
can ignite them ('I') -- a very convenient way to show the contents of a
dark room. You can also extinguish them ('E') should you need the stealth
of darkness. I usually ignite every one I see, especially as I get deeper
to prevent nasty baddies from sneaking up on me!

I appreciate your comments. I was beginning to think that no one cared
about the classic Rogue-like games any more.

You've got a couple choices:

1) you can press 'f' followed by a direction and you will move until you
find something interesting or hit a wall.

2) you can use capital movement letters such as 'H', 'J', 'K', 'L' which
will move you a little more forcefully than 'f' because you'll blow past
interesting things unless you step on them.

I find 'f' by far the best because it will also follow corridors around
turns. You can really zip around if you keep your left hand on 'f' and the
right hand on either hjkl or the arrow keys.

Have fun!
