Hello,

Since i'm new to the group, first I'll tell you my Rogue playing history.

Back in 1990, I was working at DHL systems, the data center for DHL (the
flying van international courier service). There was this UNIX system that I
was using to (attempt to) write a database app in Informix 4gl. It was
called a Pyramid, and took up a room the size of a large office conference
room. I discovered Rogue in some directory and whenever I had a spare
moment, I would play it. (I kept getting killed by Kobalds, which I guess
have been renamed Kestrals...)

Every time I've had the opportunity to use a UNIX system since then, I've
search it for Rogue, but had no success in finding it. So recently I did a
little web search and found some sites and then this group.

My question to the elder Rogue players: I am perplexed by the Bow and
Arrow - It seems I can throw arrows whether I wield a bow or not. I can even
throw arrows if I drop the bow, although I haven't yet tried that against
any attacker. If I am right in understanding how this works, wielding a +1
bow adds power to the arrows. Does the mere fact of having a +1 bow in my
possession mean that it adds to the power of my arrows, or does it have to
be wielded, or, does it not matter?

Hi!
I have only time for a very short answer:

You need to wield the bow for it to have any effect.
You can throw any object, but I think other stuff only
makes 1 hp damage, if that.

Hope this helps!

Sure. Why not? You can throw anything in your inventory as I recall.
Sort of realistic I think.

Yes. Same thing works with crossbow and its bolts as well as sling and
rocks. Although I find it's excruciatingly rare to actually find both
a crossbow and bolts for it, or a sling and rocks for it.

As I remember, in Rogue 3.6 (the grandfather of Rogues) a thrown arrow
was as likely to hit its target as a shot arrow, except for the bow bonus
if any. This was fixed in later releases.
