2 questions:
1: Is there any way to fix (unrust or repair) weapons and armor?

2: Is there anyway of preventing rusting, damage, fire, to my items (aside
from wishing for rustproof items)?

A potion of oil will remove one layer of rust from a weapon, but won't
do anything for rusty armour..Dip the weapon in the oil for the effect.
Rust monsters are particularly nasty.. I suggest cancelling them and the
"bad" puddings. Other ways are part of 2.

For <foo> proofing something, read the appropriate enchant scroll while
confused. This will remove all damage, and make it <foo> proof. Eg: You
have very damaged walking boots (low boots). Take off all other armour,
get confused, read a scroll of enchant armour, That will remove the
damage, and give you fire proof walking boots. Weild a long sword, get
confused, read an enchant weapon, long sword loses all its rust, and
becomes rust proof.. etc.

Read 'enchant weapon' -scroll while being confused. After drinking a
potion of booze, for example.

Yeh
Confuse yourself and read a scroll of enchant weapon (works for armour too)
this will rustproof it.
Also find a tin of grease and apply it to your weapon/armour
Finally, in any version which has shopkeepers with special services, a
weapon store will do it for you. Just walk into the shop (or even outside
it), press (p)ay when not owing any money to the shopkeeper, and then chose
rustproof

It should be noted that this is an answer to question 2 only. Dipping
a metallic weapon (or weapon-tool) in a non-lit non-cursed potion of
oil will removed one layer of rust if there is one. If there isn't,
it does nothing (so this answers question 1 only). Observe that it
does not apply to armour or non-metallic weapons (or, in fact, ammunition).

Cheers,
