Magic traps to about a zillion different random things, the pack
shaking message basically means that nothing happened. Incedentally, why
not? Kicking a chest tends to destroy the contents; should there be a
chance that breakable items (potions, mostly) in you pack get destroyed by
the violent shaking?

The messages you get from eggs are different. Something like, "you
feel something moving in your pack" and then a few turns later, "a
<monster> falls out of your pack!".
The shaking pack thing means you stepped on a magic trap. This is
just one of a handful of the harmless things that can happen. Step
back over it to see some of the not-so-harmless things! B-)

Nothing happens? I always thought this was implemented to annoy the users
of fixed inventory letters (I don't use this option). A violently shaking
pack should rearrange your complete inventory in a random fashion.

(Chuckle) I really like that idea. I hope it gets implemented.

I don't; it wouldn't accomplish anything except for adding a major
annoyance when it happened (one which could be undone manually, unlike
the item-memory loss of amnesia), and possibly causing some unsuspecting
player to eat his cockatrice corpse.
More reasonable might be for a small loose item to fly out of your
pack.
Your pack shakes violently. Your amulet of life saving shakes loose.--more--
