I cleared Fort Ludios from most of its population with the help of a
cockatrice corpse. Most of the statues are in the first room, right next
to the portal.
Since there are probably 100 statues or more, I am not enthusiastic
about chipping them one by one with the pickaxe.
I do have wands of striking, but I'd really prefer to keep any potions
these soldiers and sergeants might have had. Is there any way to achieve
that quickly?
Thanks!

No. You have to choose between destroying the statues quickly (with a
force bolt or a wand of striking) or tediously chipping them to
pieces and getting their potions.

You could conceivably stone-to-flesh them, but that kind of defies
the purpose...

Actually, if you destroy a statue that has a potion inside it with a
spell of Striking, the potion stays intact. just noticed in ludios
myself, and tested by calling in numphs in wizmode. just first pick up
fragile objects from the ground.

Actually, if you stone-to-flesh 100 statues occupying the same space,
you'll get 1 live critter and 99 (possibly less) corpses.
