I have gotten to the point that Putty makes my tourney game look exactly
like my out-of-the-box nethack home app. I'm not saying these will or won't
work for you.

Ready?
1. Putty config. NOTE - when you click all this stuff in, make sure you
save it in the "Saved sessions" window. Once you save it, click *once* on
the saved session, and then the LOAD button to enter more settings, or
double-click to bring up a window in which to play on the tourney server.

"Session" defaults except:
- Hostname: scheherazade.devnull.net
- Port: 22
- Protocol: SSH
"Terminal" - all default values (Do NOT set keypad to "Nethack")
"Window/Appearance" defaults except:
- Font: !! Terminal/10 pt. !! (IMPORTANT!!)
"Window/Translation" defaults except:
- Character set: CP437
"Connection" defaults except:
- Terminal-type string: xtermc
- Terminal speeds: 38400,38400 (default, but not sure if this will vary as
per provider's setup)

2. Nethack settings
(O)ptions
- Set "f - color" to true
- Set "n - IBMgraphics" to true
- Set number_pad to 1-On

Good luck in the tourney, ladies and gentlemen, and be merciful to any
ghosts of steveyo you may find on a bones level.

I used 9 point.

Also, under Window...Colors, I remapped some of what I consider to be ugly
or hard-to-see colors:
Cursor to 0-150-250
ANSI Blue to 20-120-220
ANSI Bold Blue to 120-70-250
ANSI Yellow to 190-160-80

I've tried these settings, and it looks ok, but the window is really small,
even if I maximize it. The game window takes up about less than 1/4 of my
monitor. Any idea how to fix that?

OK, but still, Terminal 9pt?

Excellent. I'll be copying those.

Aside from just messing w/desktop settings, no.

Yes.

I find myself changing a lot of in-game configuration (O)ptions.
On the first page: acefmnop
On the second page: cfmnoprs
On the third page: acfghij

Try this: in PuTTY's Window | Behaviour options, check "Full screen on
Alt-Enter". Connect to your tournament server, then press Alt-Enter.
Press it again to return to window mode.

In article news:<1130955651....@g47g2000cwa.googlegroups.com>,
Michael Lehotay says...
Under Window, you may wish to change "When window is resized" to "change
size of font"

Since (as far as I can tell) config files aren't yet implemented on
devnull, here's a hack for Putty. It should work in any client, though.

Once you arrive in the dungeon, copy everything between these two quote
marks, but not the quote marks themselves, then paste it into your
terminal. In Putty, this last step can be done with a simple right click.

"Oacefmnop cfmnoprs acfghij 0
spiders
rb/(
uabdghijk "

If you dislike any of my options, change the text accordingly.

HTH.
