Starting to have back to back ascensions and I had an "Easy Wizard" start.

Started with scroll of enchant armor and enchant weapon. Found altar and a magic marker with nearly 100 charges on it on level 5. Dipped 5 potions in a nearby fountain (no incidents).

Blanked every scroll I could find, first upgraded staff to +6, and then upgraded all armor as high as I could. AC -8, and that's without a shield and no major metallic armor. Went to gnometown and found a magic lamp, rubbed it wish SDSM. Now I'm AC -19, expert with +6 quarterstaff, and oh did I mention I found a spellbook of magic missile as well. Do I even need magicbane? I have reflection, magic resitance, AC and a bitching weapon. Ready for the castle practically.

Went to sokobon overconfident. Ate and got satiated then ate a tin IT'S SPINICH, choked and died, no confirmation message for being overfull with tins of spinich I guess.

YASD. That guy would have easily ascended if I wasn't stupid.

Sorry to hear that. That's a built-in limiting factor of the game,
overconfidence; built into the operator at the keyboard of course.
;-) I suppose that choking while satiated is something everyone
has experienced. Whether you'll get a warning message in advance
or not depends on the actual satiation grade and nutrition of the
food you eat. Something that went into my genes is to not eat any
unknown/unidentified tin - that's in Slashem, slightly different
from NH -, to not eat tins or huge corpses while satiated, and not
eat anything after having consumed dragons and the like. In the
latter case I also don't interrupt/save the game but continue to
play until not satiated any more so that I don't forget my status
after the restart. Generally also keeping an eye on the ring of
slow digestion, or unidentified worn rings (been there and died).

I guess that's what makes NH so difficult: so many ways to not be
cautious enough... I never ascended, but in my last game was very
careful with a rogue all way long, and went up to the Astral Plane:
I thought, OK, I'm so close to the end, no way I cannot make it !
Well, I guess you know what happened right ? Got overwhelmed and crushed in
a few rounds (still managed to kill one rider though)...
I should have prepared better... :~(

I tend to play fast. VERY VERY fast. Speed kills. You should never eat while satiated anyway, it abuses ability scores (unless there is some special purpose like amulet of magical breathing and giant corpses or something).

MAN was I confident.

When you have a great game like that your response should be to go SLOWER, because you know that the game is going to play on your overconfidence!

The prompt for whether to continue eating is only given after
the first bite. If you start eating while already so satiated that
the first bite is too much, then you'll choke to death without
an opportunity to change your mind.

That's for 3.6 and later: "continue eating?" with default "no".
In 3.4 and earlier it was "stop eating?" with default "yes" but
some players complained that "no" usually represents the
safer choice.

That change was only for the wording of the prompt along
with which of yes or no meant you keep going or stop. The
"don't prompt until after the first bite" aspect didn't change;
that has been there since 3.1.

I see. I think maybe spinach has a ton of nutrition per bite, so that was likely it right?

This was 3.4.3, not 3.6x

I'm pretty sure that choking on the first bite is based on satiation
before that bite, not satiation plus the nutrition of the first bite, so
I think that you would have choked on anything. But I won't swear
to that.

You didn't mention how you became satiated. If it was from eating
a dragon corpse, that will always put you past the threshold where
it is unsafe to eat anything more. That isn't the only way to become
too satiated to eat another bite, just the most common.

This is why you never eat when satiated. Simply not worth it.

Yeah, I never eat when satiated, unless I'm playing at lightning speed, which is what I was doing, which is stupid. I have a compulsion sometimes to play nethack way too fast.
