Plugging along with my Archaeologist, best one yet, and I reached the
castle. Now, on the right hand entrance, there are several trap doors
that drop you into Gehennom. I haven't played Nethack much lately,
and so, not thinking, I decided it would be convenient for me to block
those trap doors with boulders to allow easy passage back and forth.
So I blocked the traps, and cleared the castle. Then, realizing that
there was no down staircase and that the standard avenue of descent
was blocked, I attempted to dig a hole. Well, as you can imagine, I'm
now desperately searching for a passage downward from a castle full of
pits. Everywhere I dig, even where the boulders filled the trap
doors, the floor is too hard to dig into.
Am I stuck? Is it over? Please say no! But I don't know what else
to try!
Thanks...

This is covered in detail in the FAQ that is posted here every two weeks, if I
recall correctly.

Well, if you can level teleport, maybe you can teleport down
past the castle. That's all I can think of. Good luck!

All right: no. And I'm not just saying that, it's true.
Use a form of level teleporting. For example, read a c?oT. (Teleport control
is useful for this.)
