Hi guys! Has anyone played Pixel Dungeon? I really like it and it's my Go To game on my phone. I know you can play nethack on your phone but I find the keyed interface doesn't work super well for playing on my phone.
I'm of the opinion that the next best thing is Pixel Dungeon.
Is it as hard as Nethack? I'd say no. But it is quite good and a go to in a pinch. It's also free, and it's on android and apple products, as well as on a service called "Steam" for PC.
For a PC I'd rather just play Nethack, but it's a real fun game.
In addition, the game has programmable challenges (just like challenge games in Nethack), and you can set them in the beginning of the game to make them more difficult and if you choose those settings there's no getting out of it once you start the game. No one has beaten the game with all the challenges intact (yet).
There are some quirky functions to the game, and I've employed some Nethack like exploits for subverting the programmer's intent, which was really fun. I'll give you a for instance:
In Nethack we have AOLS. In Pixel Dungeon there's an Ankh. The Ankh is really great, it saves your life if you die and restores all your hit points (as well as restoring hunger back to full).
The catch is that if you die with the ankh it will wipe out your inventory save your equipped armor and weapon.
I discovered that by dropping all my items on a previous floor, I could go up a set of stairs and intentionally die on one level higher, get my health and hunger back, and then descend a level to go get all my loot.
There are other crafty things you can do in the game as well.
In any case, I thought you guys might like it.

Yeah, it's pretty fun. Best attempt at a mobile roguelike I've seen.
Actually I've been playing Shattered Pixel Dungeon, a "variant" if
you will. Both that and the original are also available on F-Droid,
Android's FOSS app repository, if that makes them any more tempting.

Yeah, I played original pixel dungeon and shattered pixel dungeon. I think I stopped playing original one when they changed how enchantment works. However I still play SPD.
