patch messing up the message window

Hi,
I've been patching nethack under Windows. I've succesfully installed 4
of them, but 2 others (itemcat and trapsontop) give me some trouble.
The patch applies succesfully and compilation works fine. But when I
start nethackw.exe, the message window is blank, and every single
message pops up a message box. Also, with itemcat, activating a
tile_file crash the program. I don't get it. The problem seems
completely unrelated to the patches.
Has anyone ever saw that kind of problem?
