Nothing very memorable early on. There was an encounter with a
nymph. Lost a bunch of stuff. Chased her down a couple of levels.
Then found all my stuff in a pile in a doorway along with a !oOD and a
mirror. Something killed the nymph but I never saw or heard anything
that might have done it, plus this was way before I got conflict.
Found a /oInvi early on. However this became a problem when our hero
fell through a hole or something and landed in a shop. The shopkeeper
says invisible customers weren't welcome. Our hero didn't want
anything in the crummy shop anyway. He tried to leave but the
shopkeeper kept blocking him.
Eventually got out of there, by using his pick-axe that he had with
him. However the evil shopkeeper stole his pack as he fell through.
Returned to the level, but got caught up in some problems with an
invisible stalker and some other nasties. Had to #pray to survive the
fight. However hunger was not taken care of (and the evil shopkeeper
had all his food). Our hero had to break his vegie conduct and eat
the stalker corpse to keep from dying of starvation.
Shortly after that the Murder Spree began. Our hero had found a CoMR
and so it was time for the shopkeepers to die. The Murder Spree
started with the killing of that evil shopkepper and the recovery of
all our hero's stuff. The spree finally ended back in mine down after
all the shopkeepers had been killed.
The murder spree worked out well, providing a lot of gold to buy a lot
of protection. By time the mines and soko were done, our hero had
broken the vegie and weaponless conducts. Forgot to unwield a pick-
axe one time.
There had been an alter right next to the mine entrance. One #offer
before going down there and our hero received Snickersnee as a gift.
With weaponless gone, I figured might as well use Snickersnee and so
enchanted it +4 or +5 I can't recall and then proceeded down below
Soko.
Found the level with the IC transporter. Everything I've read
suggests one should not do the monk quest until almost ready for the
run. So down our hero went.
Our hero found water walking boots pretty early on. Also found a
+oFireball, one of only 3 or 4 spells he learned before the quest.
The Medusa level was made easy by the peaceful titan and the water
walking boots. Our hero still dug down first. He landed at the
castle. Went back up and had to chase Medusa all around down to the
castle.
The castle proved to be rather difficult. So buffed up some armor. Did
the Fort and bought more protection. I can't remember if I switched
back to the robe from the Cloak of MR at this point or not - I did at
some point maybe after I got the eyes or maybe here when I buffed up
the armor. Also by this point I also got FrostBrand.
Castle still took a while to clear. The castle wand went for a bunch
of goodies including a helm of brilliance, ring of conflict, and some
magic markers. The Castle stores held the Vorple Blade.
Briefly checked out the Valley then headed for the quest.
Getting down to Master Kaen was pretty easy. However right above his
lair, our hero fell down a trap door. not good not good.
The ensuing fight was a disaster. Our hero almost died. Fortunately
the =oConflict made some things attack Kaen and he teleported to the
upstairs. This gave our hero time to cast healing a few times and
recover his hp. The thing that finally saved our hero was attempting
and succeeding at casting fireball twice while Kaen was on the
upstairs. The 2nd one killed Kaen. If I ever play a monk again, I'll
make sure I've got teleportitis with TC and a lot more hp before
attempting the quest again.
Anyway quest over. The Eyes are nice. Onward to the Valley.
The Valley was unremarkable. Gehennom was mercifully short. VIBSQ
was on like dlvl44.
I was all ready to do a pudding farm before waking the wizard but I
asked some questions on the newsgroup. I found out wearing a shield
wasn't as awful as I thought it was for a monk and probably could have
gotten away with body armor too. So grab the shield of reflxtion from
Perseus enchant it up. Replace the "oReflexion with an "oLS. Write
some ?oGD and some ?oGeno. Got rid of all h,L,R,;, and P. Probably
should have done c's too.

RUN RUN RUN!
The only interesting part of this was that /oDeath kept popping up
everywhere. I had like two before waking the wizard to like 7 by time
I reached dlvl1.
The plane of Earth had some trouble with the wizard. Couldn't for the
life of me hit the keyboard right to zap a /oDeath. Kept zapping a /
oDig. Finally got it right and killed him. Confused ?oGD easily
found the portal to Air.
Off I went. Of course I forgot to put on the boots of lev before
entering the portal. So I had to waste time doign that. I don't know
why, but I think I was only engulfed twice by air elementals and they
did hardly any damage to me. Very very strange.
Plane of Fire was easier than usual. The portal wasn't far. No
purple A's appeared with a summoning storm. No silliness getting stuck
in lava. Just a quick hop, skip, and jump over to the Plane of Water.
Water was nice without the ;. I gave up waiting for the portal to
come to me and burned a 2nd ?oGD to find it was just north of the
bubble I was in.
Before I knew it, our hero was on the Astral plane with his desire for
conflict fulfilled. Entered on the left side and headed for the left
alter. Didn't have any way to figure out which rider was there.
It was Death. Thanks to the Eyes I could see him right on the other
side of the door. Unfortunately I didn't do anything about it and
opened the door (I know stupid stupid stupid). Conflict + magic
missile took out Death quickly.
Over to the alter. It was neutral. At this point the revived Death
was wandering in the hallway behind the alter. Perfect for our hero
to escape unharmed to the middle alter.
I think it was Famine at the middle door. However he died so quickly
I can't recall if it was him or not. Up to the middle alter. It is
lawful...
