I just need one clarification...

Is it possible to destroy a weapon which is
at +5 by reading a blessed scroll of enchant weapon
while lucky? Or is it always safe to read a scroll
with the weapon at +5? I just want to play it safe
with my artifacts. I suppose the same applies to armor
at +3. Thanks!

It is always safe to enchant a weapon from a starting point of +5.
It is always safe to enchant any armor from +3.
It is always safe to enchant elven armor (leather helm, mithril coat,
cloak, shield or boots) from +5.
If your role is W, then you can also enchant a cornuthaum from +5.

Beyond these points there is a substantial risk:
only a 1/|current enchantment| chance of survival for armor
only a 1/3 chance of survival for weapons.
