Pestilence and Famine ate Finger of Death spells whenever they came
close; Death I just ran past (he did shave ~20 points off my max
health). Right up at the end, I had several wishes left over, so I
spent two on Zorkmids for ~20,000 more points.
No boots of speed all game, but the levitation boots turned out to be
just as good, considering that I hade both the hast spell and the
jumping spell (though as it turned out, I never jumped). I used one
scroll of charging on the Astral Plane to recharge my Power.

You were level 30 with a maximum of 432 hit points when you ascended.
Congratulations!

When I first started playing I thought that would be the case, but I
think monks or knights might be the easiest.
> M - a blessed partly eaten chickatrice corpse (weapon in hand)
Partly eaten chickatrice corpse??? I think you get style points for
that. Did you poly into something that was stoning resistant?
> You were level 30 with a maximum of 432 hit points when you ascended.
Congrats again!
No, I wished for it like that. I got impatient when the second high
altar I checked wasn't the right one, and I had wishes to burn, so I
wished up the lightest petrifying weapon (blessed) to speed my way
through those angels.
I wound up using fourteen wishes and genociding a bunch of species
(including all liches, mind flayers, and ;) to ensure victory. In
fact, I was insanely lucky with wishes from the beginning. I wound up
finding a magic lamp before I even hit Minetown, then found three more
in Minetown itself (two at Izchak's and one at the general store). The
wand of wishing at the castle was fully charged, and I used blessed
charging to get three more, plus wresting the final charge from the
wand. I found yet another magic lamp inside the mazes underneath the
castle, and two more from pudding farming (forgive me) much later
after clearing out Gehennom. Had a few more wishes from thrones (two)
along the way. Still had three magic lamps (two blessed, one uncursed)
on me at the end.
I did everything I possibly could to survive. Had a full set of +5
armor (GDSM, AoR, T-Shirt, GoP, HoT, Speed Boots) and a +7 Grayswandir/
Silver Saber combo. I wound up using one of my many wishes on
Magicbane, and wound up barely using it. I found Cleaver inside Orcus
Town, and Trollsbane/Frost Brand/Mjollnir/Dragonbane from sacrificing
the many puddings (200+) that I farmed in Minetown (which happened to
have a sink and a co-aligned altar). By the way, on the unlikely
chance that anyone from the DevTeam reads this post, you should put in
a ritual in the next version to turn three or more Bane weapons into
some sort of Omnibane.
The puddings I farmed out of necessity - I had reached the Vibrating
Square, marked it, and was about to go kill Rodney when I realized I
had no idea which scroll was gold detection. I wound up farming
puddings and never finding ANY gold detection scrolls, but was able to
figure out which one was which by going down my Discoveries list and
figuring out I had all but two scrolls identified - the other turned
out to be Punishment.
With my posessions in hand (plus a blessed horn of plenty, a blessed
unicorn horn, a blessed can of grease, the PYEC, and 15 bottles of
holy water) I killed Rodney and grabbed the book to preform the
invocation. Going back up Gehennom turned out to be a lot tougher than
I thought. Even though I had taken plenty of time to dig a clear path
between the staircases, I wound up getting the Mysterious Force at
LEAST twenty times, until I finally managed to escape to the Castle
and (relative) safety. The Elemental Planes were, surprisingly, not
all that bad with gold detection to find the portal - except for Fire,
and even then that was largely due to the hundreds of resist messages
generated by the elementals. I had Rodney appear around five times,
and killed him each time with a Wand of Death blast.
My last bit of luck came from finding the correct High Altar on my
first try - in fact, I THOUGHT I was going to the center altar and
didn't realize until it was too late. However, with -50 AC and the
best sword in the game, nothing could even touch me. A few Wand of
Death blasts cleared out most of the area and let me get my 2 bits
from the High Priest of the Lady before offering up the amulet.
I think what I've taken away from this is that Tourist is definitely
not a weak role - although it turned out to be a pain trying to make
it to Minetown to do protection racket, even WITH the GDSM I was
wearing at the time. I've also learned the value of having your pet
kill everything for you.
I'd like to thank everyone who helped me with my near-ascension two
years ago, and the people who wrote the spoilers that I wound up
referring to so often to refresh my memory. I'd also like to thank The
Shrewd Dude and the Pudding Rights Society. Go team @!

Why not just use a single wish to wish for two or three scrolls of gold
detection, then write some more (as many you need) with a magic marker?

A tourist is a very hard class to play; certainly one of the hardest,
probably the hardest. Without your many wishes I'm sure the game would
have evolved very differently. Any class that gets so many wishes will
be easy to ascend.

Mind that your pet may be killed, so you should foster your character as
well.
And congrats, BTW :-)
