Hi !
I still love moria and nethack but I like even more upgraded ones Angbang and Adom.
They are like the "old ones" but far more better ..
Anyone else agrees ?

I personally prefer Moria and its immediate relatives to Angband and its
variants. The speed of gameplay, lack of need to max out everything and
lack of tedious hack-n-slash, plus the greater distinction between
character types, are all points in favor of Moria. IMO.

Agreed. Angband is more extensive than Moria, with higher levels, more
character types, higher stat capabilities, more monsters, more
"challenging", etc. etc. My observations:

Angband throws groups of monsters at you (eg. a platoon of Orcs) which
is cool, but can get *really* tedious when there are 200 of them.
There are more attack types, things like breath "Time" and "Nexus",
these fun ideas but in practice get to be a real PITA. The top
monsters are *EXTREMELY* tough, eg. "Morgoth" can crush your L.50
Troll warrior with AC 90 and 1000hp in 3 hits, and another monster can
summon dozens of *Balrogs* around your player!!! It gets a bit silly.

But Angband has some cool features. Eg: Increased light radius for
different light sources. Devices called "rods" which are like
wand/staff but never run dry. More effective missile weapons. Unique
"Artefact" objects which are better than Ego items. Unique "boss"
monsters which guaranteed carry Ego or Artefact objects. Better stuff
available in shops.

All these make playing a fighter character far more viable at higher
levels.

I cut my rougelike teeth on moria and it is a great but nethack is in a
diferent class from moria/angband, it has much more depth of play, with
role depentant quests, peristant levels, real problems to solve etc.

I don't think you can do a fair comparision to the two moria/angband are
very much hack 'n slash wear nethack need a more thoughtful aproach to
game play

Cheers

Joel
