Robert Alan Koeneke, who signed his comments "RAK" in the Moria source
code, has escaped the dungeon.

Just received word that Robert Alan Koeneke has passed away. He was
the the original creator of "Moria", one of the earliest (and my
first) roguelikes.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Robert Alan
Koeneke of Hurst, Texas, who passed away on July 15, 2022, at the age of
64, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends can send
flowers and condolences in memory of the loved one. Leave a sympathy
message to the family on the memorial page of Robert Alan Koeneke to pay
them a last tribute.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, July 23rd 2022 from 3:00 PM to
4:00 PM at the Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home (5725 Colleyville Blvd,
Colleyville, TX 76034).

Sad news, indeed. I hope he knew how many people still remembered and
appreciated his work after all these years.

That's very sad. One wonders how many people will remember him for his work. Hopefully some. If only a few, that's still a great legacy.

Sad news. Mr Koeneke created a fantastic game. I played it a great deal in the late 80s (took me over 4 weeks to get my first win!) and still play the Angband variant from time to time.
