Well I know not all consider the Diablo series rogue-like but I thought
after reading the new information on Diablo II that its more a rogue-like
then the original. The main features they added that I thought added to the
feel was probably that bows (and now crossbows as well) don't have unlimited
arrows and that you could buy arrows or make them from body parts of
monsters. Also they added a skill system which I've seen in some
rogue-likes, you get a skill point when you go up a level and buy skills and
some skills have other pre-requisites. I agree the biggest separation from
other rogue-likes that Diablo has is being real-time instead of turn-based
and secondly the graphics though I see nothing wrong with having graphics
over ASCII, the visual interface as far as how the dungeons represented
hasn't been of much concern to me with rogue-likes so much as the randomness
and storylines and quests.

On a side note Diablo is getting a paper crossover. There are two variants
coming out to go with D&D 3e (3rd edition and they're dropping the Advanced
part of the title). One is an 'intro to paper RPG' style game to get
computer RPG gamers into playing paper RPGS (using a mix of DiabloII
items/chars/spells/quests with D&D rule system). The other is a module that
follows the DiabloII storyline called "Temple of the Sightless Eye" that
fits into 3e rules but adds twists for the D2 classes, skills, spells, item
structure (from what I gathered the DM probably rolls for exact effects of
items on monsters), and has the monsters from the game in D&D stats.

Course its a matter till they come out to see how good a job they did but oh
well it looks promising. And I do consider Diablo/DiabloII rogue-likes even
if they are on the border of non-rogue-like CRPG.

I really like what I've been reading about Diablo II, it sounds
like they're focusing more on the gameplay experience
and less about jumping on the 3D bandwagon.

In fact, they're not going 3D at all with Diablo II, which I
believe is a good thing. It was amusing to read about the
"outrage in the gaming community" that they're going
to stay with the *gasp* 2D interface of the original,
rather than developing some new fancy 3D engine.

Well, Warcraft II, and Starcraft, mainly. A few other things, but...

Sheesh. Not _every_ game company feels the need to screw up perfecly fine
games with a hard-to-control 3D engine. Diablo 2 will still be isometric 2D.

|Magic Carpet is pretty awesome (red-blue 3D with no video card!).

Magic Carpet was by Bullfrog, last time I checked. Good game, but it gets a
tad boring after a while. They should have spent more time on the story
elements, IMO.

Amen to that. They're one of the best game development companies out there,
though there's a lot of new up and comers, like Valve and Relic who are
looking really good. Oh, and Black Isle Studios of course - Mmmmmmm Baldur's
Gate. Fallout. MmmmMMmmm....

Anyway, all the titles by Blizzard I can think off op the top of my head
(and which should run reasonably to perfectly) are :
Warcraft I & II (especially II is very good)
Starcraft
Diablo
Ummmmm....that's it, really.
They're not very prolific - they spend ages on design and polishing.
