Hello all. My name's Adam.

I would like to talk to some of you about developing Roguelike games.
About your ideas on the genre, where it came from, and where it's
going.
All this would be used for an article I would like to write about the
Roguelike community. About who creates them, and who enjoys them.

If you're able to help me, I would appreciate you contacting me
directly. Tell me a little about yourself, and what you've worked on.
As well as what you enjoy in Roguelikes. What are your favourite
titles? Where do you get your inspiration from.

Thanks for your time. I hope to hear from you guys.

You should listen to Roguelike Radio (http://
roguelikeradio.blogspot.com/). They speak about a different roguelike
or a topic concerning roguelikes every week and I think that this
would be a good place to start for you. Hope this helped.

Thanks. I'll be sure to check it out.

I would still like to just talk directly (well, as directly as
possible) with people who will be contributing in the contest, or just
those who have worked on Roguelikes. To get a more personal touch.

I'll speak with you. I'm not one of the top developers but I am a fan,
frequent contributor to discussion and have entered the 2 previous
7DRL competitions. My contributions were embarrassing though. One real
time shooter full of bugs and a card game full of typos.

I think your best bet would be to get a hold of guys like Darren
Grey, Andrew Doull and Ido Yehieli. Those guys do a lot of the
Roguelike Radio stuff and Doull even has his own developer website.
It's called Ascii Dreams. He runs the Roguelike of the Year on his
blog.

And here is a link to roguelike radio. You'll get to hear Grey,
Doull and Yehieli and their sweet accents. I recommend episode 16
where they talk about the history and future of roguelikes.

Another good place for discussion is on Temple of the Roguelike.
It's a bit more active than this google group. A lot of the same
people will post though. Slash maintains it. He also wrote quite a few
roguelikes. I think he runs the 7DRL competition (i think).

Other than that each roguelike starts to develop it's own fanbase.
When this happens forums dedicated to that roguelike pop up. There is
one for Brogue, Dungeons of Dreadmor and ToME4 that are pretty lively.
I've never checked them out though. I imagine Crawl has a pretty sweet
forum as well.

I do not know how much you play roguelikes but I'd recommend
checking out the original Rogue, maybe a little Nethack and then some
of the newer ones like Brogue, Crawl and ToME4. DoomRL also has a big
community. I'd say check out Dreadmor but you'd have to pay. The rest
are freeware. I'd also say check out Dwarf Fortress but it's only a
Roguelike in the broadest sense.

Hey Adam,

Also check out the '@Play' column by John Harris (also a frequent
roguelike radio contributor) is a great background read. There are a
lot of them though! Last I checked they were here: www.gamesetwatch.com/column_at_play

I don't consider myself a 'real developer' but I'd be glad to share my
thoughts.
