What makes the threat ironic, trollen? Do you mean to say you find the
flavor of my kind disagreeable? Good; I'd much prefer you feasted on
Lycoperdon perlatum or Calvatia gigantea than on me or my numerous
little children. Or perhaps you fear that I am vulnerable to rot?
Perhaps one day I will be infected by a Cordyceps or a Hypomyces,
though I am unaware of any that afflict my kind. But if so I will grow
back from my underground nest of tiny threads, for that is my true
self, and the harmless little white ball you see at the surface is
just my reproductive organ.

If your home collapses with the workstation in it, the workstation is

It's a simple statement of fact. Can you provide any argument as to
why a computer inside a collapsing home wouldn't be likely to be
damaged?

Aha! My fiendish plan is working perfectly. First, spore dust in the
hard drive makes the tholenbot skip like a broken record! (They think
they have those drives' casings hermetically sealed. They greatly
underestimate the osmotic force hyphae can exert -- enough to lift
paving stones, nevermind pry their way into a disk drive.)

Next is the takeover of much of the California coastline. No longer
shall my species be confined to the conifer woods of the Sierra
Nevada. Adaptation to saltier and more humid air has taken generations
of selective breeding but soon a new breed of Handkea fumosa shall
descend into the lowlands. LA is swimming in garbage -- food residues,
cardboard boxes, construction debris. A feast for my millions of
children!

And after LA -- the world! Muhahahahaha!

Yes, that tholenbot really is something. I'd like to give its
programmer a nasty case of asthma.

But first, my pretties must spread across the LA Basin. Soon, they
will tremble not with an earthquake but with fear! And then my
children will cover the Earth with little white puffballs and blacken
the skies with their spores! After that it gets difficult. The air is
thin on Mars, and the temperatures extreme on Venus; beyond that, only
icy, giant, or airless bodies for light-years. Yet spores are tiny and
may lie dormant for millennia. Launched across the vastness of space
they could infect every world of the galaxy in less time than the
dinosaurs reigned for. And after that, Andromeda ... ten times larger
and containing the greatest source of energy known to Handkea fumosa!

As for the tholenbot and its programmer -- well, if they're allergic
to fungus spores, they'd be wise to buy the company that makes
Claritin. Whoever owns that will get rich. Anyone else who's allergic,
not so much.

I don't think so, and if you keep up that nasty tone you'll get a
snootful.

What fantasy is that? Even now, my mycelium is infiltrating the casing
of your OS/2 workstation. Soon, it shall use osmotic pressure to crack
the integrity of the disk drive housing! Muahahahahahahahahahaha!

What does your classic erroneous presupposition have to do with Java,
disk crash survivor?

I have no classic erroneous presuppositions beyond those that you give
me, and as for the threat, it has as much to do with OS/2 as your OCD
does, tribble!

On your part, tholen, as evidenced by your absence from usenet this
past week or so while you got a trashed disk drive replaced.

The disk crash was so traumatic you're in denial? Wow.

On the contrary, there is a furry little bot in this newsgroup for
which the description is quite apt. An OS/2 box with fuzzy mycelium
coming out of every little crevice in the casing and running a usenet
autoresponder, to be precise!

Oh, honey, are you still in denial over that disk crash? Tsk tsk!

Your disk's boot partition did contain an install of Warp, did it not?

I don't own the computer making your robotic posts. I don't know who
does, though apparently he works for the astronomy department at
Hawaii U.

How is the loss of a copy of OS/2 in a disk crash *not* related to OS/
2???

The one that crashed, obviously, doofus.

Erroneous, my left upper spore cluster; your human operator's address
is tho...@ifa.hawaii.edu, astro-bot. That's clearly at Hawaii U, astro-
bot, and the "ifa" stands for "Institute for Astronomy".
