What is the highest speed one can reach?
+2 rings of speed exist, at least in theory. Are boots always +1?
Anyway, RoS +2, boots of speed, Ringil would take you to speed 5, and you
could get to 6 with hastes. Is this the best possible?
If not, what insanely implausible combination is best?

What I want to know is why did they change it? The Ring of Barahir seems
totally useless to me. What does it do? (I did have it once, but noticed
nothing)

Well, the highest I've seen is RoS +2 and BoS +2 and Ringil (or
Cubragol) and hasteself (or Essence of Speed). Takes you to 'light
speed' I believe.

Doesn't the artifact ring of +1 to all stats and speed (I don't recall the
name) also stack with rings of speed, giving a maximum of 7?

Well, rings of speed plus two are cumulative with each other. So if
you somehow acquire two speed +2 rings, plus ringil, plus boots of
speed +1 would give you +6 immediately, plus haste would bring you to
+7. The ring of barahir (the ring that gives +1 to all stats) does

not give +1 to speed. That's a misnomer that's circulated around here
for a while.

The ring of Barhihrhihr (I am terrible with names-- even after reading
the books) is +1 all stats and poison resist... I found it VERY useful
before getting PSDM-- I have a very old Angband version too (well
old in Angband time) and it doesnt have speed (goodness if it did, my
last priest would have been speed 5 with no haste!)

You are mistaken.

Rings of speed aren't cumulative with other rings of speed.

Rings of Spees(+2) ARE cumulative with other rings of speed.
Rings of Speed(+1) are not cumulative with each other.

Items: Max Speed:

No Items 1
Boots of speed +1 2
Ringil +1 3
RoS +2 5
RoS +2 7
Haste Self +1 8 = Absolute maximum speed

I've only read rumors about the +2 speed rings. Has ANYONE
actually found one? I know they exist in the coding, but has
anyone been so lucky?

My priest got up to a speed 5 with haste, and she had to eat
quite a bit, even with slow digestion. Does anyone think it's possible to
survive with a speed 8? I just imagine constantly fainting from hunger
and starving to death. I think speed 5 is the fastest you could reasonably
get and still play. Anyone else think you could survive going faster than
a constant speed 5 with an occaisional speed 6 haste?

I recently managed to pick up a Potion of Speed from the black market
(only 490, too!) so you could feasibly get INFINITE speed by stashing
these babies up and quaffin them all at once.

Ah, if that were only true. . . Quaffing multiple speed potions simply
extends the time the hasting is in effect; they don't "layer."

This is a test .sig. If this had been an actual .sig, you would have
been bombarded by dozens of lines of ASCII graphics which would
shamelessly waste bandwidth and your time.

Nice try, but Potions of Speed are NOT cumulative in effect, only in
duration.

Also, infinite speed = infinite hunger---you die instantly.

Brings new meaning to the cliche:

"Live fast, die young, and leave a good-looking corpse." :&)

Unless you run a *really* old version, and uses the "curse bug".

Using that it was possibel to get much higher speeds (you could
probably even get 18/** in all stats without any equipment in use if
you cursed enough artifacts).

When I beat my old version of Moreia (I am now doing Angband for the hell
of it) I had a sword of Godly Might (+lots +lots) (+lots more) don't quite
remember the stats, but I could kill AMHD's in two rounds, no real
challange after that... anyway to the point my speed was around 6 or 7. I
had to carry a spare sword in case I ran out of food, it's a real bitch
when the stores only have one or two rations in stock, lasts about 10
minutes of real time. I also got rings of slow digestion on to try and
combat my increased speed.
I'd only suggest speeds of about 3 normally, if you get into real
trouble, 8 would be real nice :)
