Minor early-game brag

OK, I know that it is bad luck to brag about your early successes with
a character, but I just can't help myself with this one. This
character, a Dunadan Priest, is maybe an hour old. He dispatches
Wormtongue, then discovers a cloak that drops after the kill. Knowing
that this is a guaranteed excellent object, he puts it on, and
immediately feels more dexterous and charismatic. The cloak pseudo-
identifies as special. Closer examination shows that it has an
activation. So I try it, and it asks me to pick an object to recharge.
How fortunate, I just happen to have a staff of identify that is
empty, so I pick that. This lets me identify the cloak as The Cloak of
Thingol. Sweet! Free identify, at least as long as I can keep from
failing and blowing up my staff, not to mention very early free
action.

But this isn't the end! This by itself probably wouldn't be worth a
brag post. After filling my inventory with various minor loot, I
decide to recall and sell, plus try to pick up my last regular priest
book in the temple. I don't find my book on sale, but I am not
disappointed for long. When I step into the armory, I see for sale: a
Hard Leather Cap of Telepathy [2,+1]. And it is CHEAP! The shopkeeper
is only asking 12,907 for it. I can't believe that this item would
sell for that price. I have somewhere around 6000-8000 gold at the
time, I forget exactly how much. So I sell the loot that I brought up
(conveniently identifying everything with my newly-charged staff
first) and I think I am about 2000 short. I don't want to part with my
cloak, but I decide to sell (almost) everything else in my possession.
I sell all the rest of my armor that I am wearing, my +2, +4 enchanted
war hammer, my stockpile of CSW potions, my #2 priest book (I decide
not to sell #3 unless I have to so I will still have Orb). Basically
EVERYTHING MUST GO! As it turns out, I get enough except for about 200
gold, which I do a little quick townspeople farming to get.

I finally end up getting my helm, fortunately it was not highly
enchanted to make it even more expensive. I have about 60 gold left
over, so I buy the only weapon I can afford, a whip for about 40 gold,
and decide to start back at 50' to earn a little money back to see if
I can buy some replacement equipment, along with my priest book. So
now after all this I wonder what stupid thing I am going to do to get
this character killed. Here is how he ended up:

But where is the "Last Messages" section? We all burn with curiosity
about this character's gruesome end!

I've only had time to get these two nice early game finds. I haven't
had time to do whatever stupid thing is eventually going to kill this
character.

No, I'm pretty sure something happened to this character, but I don't
remember what. However, see my next post (coming shortly) for why it
doesn't matter anymore.
